Hello everyone! My name is Dean Bomar (I'm the one on the left) and i'm an award winning filmmaker. I have been making short films with my brother since I was 10. We run an indie production company out of Austin Studios called Big Board films, and are currently working on our first feature! You can follow our progrss @thebomarbrothers on instagram.

Hobbies

I'm an avid chess player and tennis enthusiast! In 2015, I won the National Elementary Chess Championshiop for my divison, and have not stopped playing since!

I also competed in tennis tournaments when I was in highschool, and still follow the sport to this day (my favorite player is Jannik Sinner).

My College Plans

I'm in the process of transferring to UT Austin, where I will pursue degrees in the English and Theatre/Dance Departments. While In UT, I plan to continue taking classes here at ACC to further my education; the price of ACC cannot be beat for the value it provides!

For this class in this semetser, I wish to further complete all my prerequistie classes, a well as gain a better understanding of United States History.

Performing Arts!

I have an extensive history in the performing arts. As filmmakers, we believe (my brother and I) that in order to be filmmakers you have to understand every aspect of the craft, including how to act. We focus on improv, as that kind of performance is akin to writing in live performance. I have received extensive training at the Dads Garage Theatre and continue to perform monthly at the Hideout Theatre here in Austin.

On our film productions, I'm the DP (Director of Photography). As a part of my education, I'm taking photography classes and practicing my ability to take pictures. I carry my camera around with me everywhere and take pictures of all subjects. Actually, the photo of this post is one I took of Scott Tixier!

My favorite band of all time is TOOL. However my music taste covers a broad range of genres. Other notable artists I listen to include Spoon, Incubus, Dinosaur Jr., John Coltrane, Bach, The Talking Heads, Public Enemy, and more!

This Semester

I'm super busy this semester! I'm enrolled in 24 credits, plus I'm still in the middle of a massive move. My brother and I are still setting up our offices at Austin Studios, keeping our family buisness afloat, and move into our new family home!

My family owns and runs a small online art gallery. We sell modern art prints and lithographs from a variety of mid century modern artists. My immersion in this kind of culture since my youth has contributed to my eagerness to learn more about the world!
