• Point – First receiver, makes decisions at pace

• Shotgun – Left-side support runner

• Holster – Right-side support runner

• Bucket – Backline player out the back (usually 10, 12, or 15)

• Goal: 12 players up in the defensive line

• 10, 15, and both wings form a 4-man pendulum to cover the backfield

• Centers split the field and set the defensive edges

• Tackler recovery is critical: get Back In Game (BIG) immediately

• Emphasis on line speed, communication, and physical presence

• Aggressive, fire-up defense

• Used when:

  • Ruck is in the wide channel

  • We have even or superior numbers

• Objective: Dominate the gainline and pressure the ball carrier

• Passive, jockey defense

• Used when:

  • Ruck is in the middle

  • We are short on numbers

• Objective: Contain the attack and buy time to reset

• ✅ Outside defender makes the call (they see the numbers best)

• Post defender must push up after tackle

• Second and third defenders watch for tips and offloads

• Wings and 15 work together to close gaps on kicks and breaks

• Communicate: “Hot!” “Cold!” “Push post!” — every phase

• Ball goes to Point in the Wagon

• Point options:

  • Dummy and keep

  • Pass to crash runner (outside forward)

  • Pass out the back to Bucket

• Goal: Positive carry, win the ruck

Phase 2 – Reset to Middle

• Bucket becomes new first receiver

• Ball played to a Posse pod or wide to space

• Back support if the pod comes into contact

Phase 3 – Same Side Attack

• Wagon reforms into:

  • Whisper – Loop out the back to backs, support ruck

  • Shout – Hidden crash runner

• Edge backs and Maverick look to finish wide

• Lock – Front jumper

• Stock – Second jumper

• Barrel – Third jumper

Movement:

• Water – Dummy jump

Delivery:

• OT – Off the top

• DP – Down & pop

• Josey Wales – Maul (drive)

Audible:

• Freeze – Reset the call; jumper selects new cadence

• 10 attacks the line at pace

• Reads defense and makes decision:

• Players run pre-set lines with “sneak” and “backdoor” options

• Role-based, not position-based — timing and deception are key

🔸 Splitskees (Ireland/Scotland Call)

• Used on centerfield scrum

• 8 picks and passes to 1st receiver

• Ball is looped back to 8, who can:

  • Keep and carry

  • Switch with a center

  • Release to the wing on the edge

• Call direction:

  • Ireland = Right

  • Scotland = Left

• Front row: Prioritize clean strike and quick exit

• Back row: Fast off the scrum to support attacking pods

• 10 & 9: Communicate primary and secondary options

• Centers & Wings: Stay steep and run their lines with conviction

• 8-man: Be decisive on pick, pass, or crash when called

• If the ball goes to 8 or 2:

  • They can carry forward with urgency to beat the line

  • Or pass back to 9 or 10 for a clearing kick

  • Whichever carries, the other supports and cleans out the ruck

• Communication is Key:

  • Whichever jumper calls last is the one who goes up

  • All teammates support that call and react accordingly

  • Jumpers and lifters can rotate zones and adjust based on kick direction

• Secure possession cleanly under pressure

• Everyone needs to know who is catching the ball

• Win the first contact or clear to space

• Build into phase play with structure and shape already forming

• Catch cleanly and build immediate structure

• Set up forward pod for crash and recycle, OR

• Use 10/15 to kick back deep if under pressure

Receiving Formation

• Back 3 (15, 14, 11) spread across backfield

• 12 and 13 are ready to clean up bouncing balls or join the pod

• 1st Pod (4, 5, 8) at midfield — used for immediate crash carry

• 9 & 10 positioned for link or clearance

• Forwards staggered behind for ruck support

Execution Plan

1. Secure catch with back 3

2. Option A – Send to forward pod for go-forward + recycle

3. Option B – Pass to 10/15 for clearance kick

4. Outside backs (13, 14) communicate next phase

5. Shape forms immediately behind ball for phase attack

Expectations:

• Arrive Early: Report 10–15 minutes before your scheduled lift time.

• Be Ready: At the start time, you should have your shoes tied and be ready on the turf for your warm-up. If you are late, you will be sent home.

• Dress Appropriately: Wear an Indiana Tech shirt and properly laced athletic shoes for every lift.

• Communicate Absences: If you are sick or unable to attend, text coach as early as possible. You are responsible for scheduling a makeup session for any missed lift.

• Stay Engaged: Be attentive with both your eyes and ears throughout the session.

• Go Full Speed: Effort is non-negotiable. If you are not working at full intensity, you will be sent home.

• Supervised Use Only: The Fieldhouse weight room is for scheduled team lifts only and cannot be used without a coach present. Use the Fitness Center if you need additional lifting outside of team sessions.

• Accountability: Any student-athlete removed from training more than two times in a semester will not be allowed to train with the team for the remainder of the semester.

• Academic Materials Required: You must always have academic materials visible.

Tracking and Accountability

• Tutoring Bonus: Approved tutoring sessions count as double hours.

• Restricted Access:

  • The conference room is off-limits.

  • Hallway access requires OSS staff permission.

• Time Management:

  • The week runs Monday through Sunday.

  • Head coaches receive weekly hour reports by Tuesday EOD.

  • You are responsible for tracking your own hours.

• Leaving & Returning:

  • If you leave for more than 10 minutes, you are signed out.

  • You must sign back in upon return.

Behavioral Expectations

• No Streaming: Entertainment platforms (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) are not permitted.

• No Sleeping: Sleeping during study tables is strictly prohibited.

• No Unauthorized Spaces:

  • Conference room use is not allowed.

  • Hallway access must be cleared with OSS staff.

Interventions for Non-Compliance

1. First Violation:

   • Verbal warning.

   • Written notification sent to your coach and Jessica Steward.

2. Second Violation:

   • Immediate dismissal from OSS Study Tables.

   • You will be required to complete hours under the direct supervision of your coach.

3. Reinstatement Process:

   • A meeting with your coach and OSS is required before you may return.
