An insight I had is that a lot of students probably speak English in a social setting but not in a academic way so they dont know why they are being placed in these classes. A lot of the time it sounds like students dont realize the importance of getting out of these course as well as being in them when needed

An insight I had is that I need to share with my students why they need this class and why the activities may seem lame (like speaking out loud) to them when they actually speak English—today helped articulate to me how I can respond to them.

I really enjoyed seeing different examples of activities we can implement with our students and how to modify them if we need to. I am talking about the activity of Would You Rather...?

Also, just being able to have this time to talk to other ELD teachers.

I have so many ideas from today's session! The biggest impact is remembering that our ELD classes are not simply an intervention, but rather core instruction. Seeing the strategies modeled reminded me to take off my English teacher "hat" and be intentional with language instruction. Modeling HOW we use language will have the biggest impact on student mastery.

An insight I had was that it is very important to use sentence frames with our EL students so they can feel more comfortable using academic vocabulary within the classroom. I also enjoyed learning different teaching strategies with our students.

An insight I have is that the ELD class is not an "intervention" class. It is not the time to preview or review content from other content classes. The ELD class in itself is a class for "core instruction" which provides students with targeted instruction on how English works to build their English proficiency.

I love the emphasis on movement. Classes that ONLY assign digital coursework with no opportunities for student-student interaction are boring (and ineffective).

I wanted to let you know that I really appreciated the review of the English student profile and ELPAC proficiencies. It was a great refresher for all the teachers, and the tools and resources provided were incredibly helpful.
