For me, some of the most enjoyable parts of teaching (especially at Cross Keys) are:


  • knowing the current lingo because the kids will keep us updated 😂

  • colleagues with common values

  • creative freedom to design content that is relevant for our students

  • connecting with students on a personal level and witnessing them grow academically and emotionally

  • creating a supportive/inclusive safe space for them to experiment with ideas, ask questions, and understand their strengths and interests

  • being a life-long learner, ready to learn and adapt to new situations

  • supporting students as they set and achieve goals, overcome challenges, and gain resilience from failure

Nothing feels greater than planting a seed for a child that diverts a path of pain to one of purpose. My grandma always says "if you can impact ONE life you have done your job for the day." What an incredible gift to have this opportunity for 90 or more kids DAILY. The days and moments are super hard, but when you get that email, or update, or professional recommendation request from a former student it fills you in ways that many things in life cannot.
