In the context of the poem, what does it mean to feel alone? How is the bird affected by its isolation in the cage? What is the bird denied by being kept in the cage?
         When you feel alone you  feel helpless, like no one can help you. The bird is effected by this and it takes a toll on his mental and physical well being, soon the bird starts to beat himself against the cage, and crying out.  The bird is being denied his freedom. He is being held in a cage for no apparent reason  and he can't do anything about it, he feels helpless. 

2. How  does this relate to the Count of Monte Cristo? (Keep in mind that this bird is still caged after slavery was abolished)
When Dantes escaped from prison, he can no longer be himself. So he is free from prison but not free from being a prisoner. He always has to be someone else, and not himself. Dantes is like the bird, the bird may be free, b ut he is still in a cage. Just as Dantes who is free from prison, but never free to be himslef.
