Elyse Hatch-Rivera : This organization really focuses on using "community strategies" instead of police resources. They also focus on providing tool kits of strategies to create safety within communities, strategies that specifically do not rely on the state or police (also look at how the state and its carceral logic have transpired, for example the war on terror). They also emphasize leadership development in communities so there are people and visible systems in a community to rely on instead of police. Not just community accountability but community development.

Each tab contains articles, community training guides, and podcasts and videos.

I chose to click on the "healing justice" tab and read some of the collected articles because I feel that healing and disability justice, which are inexorably entwined, can sometimes be overlooked in responses to harm and violence. "Healing justice" is roughly defined as an approach to reclaiming ancestral practices and building new, more equitable healing practices in response to generational trauma and systemic violence.

Grace D - Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois is a non-profit organization that provides legal services and educational resources to people inside and outside of prison. They list their core values as prison abolition, gender self-determination, and transformative justice. Ash Stevens is part of their Board of Stewards! Their main initiatives focus on providing resources for name changes, representing clients with criminal cases, and helping people expunge their criminal records. They see legal services as an immediate response to harm, rather than a solution to structural violence and oppression. Their website states that they support long term movements for prison abolition, but I couldn’t find any more specifics. After reading ‘Every Mistake I’ve Made’ by Shira Hassan, where she argues that things complicit with the state such as social work shouldn’t be considered transformative justice, I wonder how their work might be in tension with their value of transformative justice.
