The wealthy Fortunato has been chained to the recesses of the underground catacombs under Montresor's household. Fortunato struggles to break free out of the niche; but Montresor has already chained him to two iron staples on the the walls of the catacomb. Still drunk, Fortunato begins to call for the amontillado, not realizing his current situation. However, Montresor ignores his cries, and proceeds to add tiers to the wall that will seal Fortunato's fate.

""The amontillado!" ejaculated my friend, not yet recovered from his astonishment." (216)

This quote is significant because it goes together with the symbol, the amontillado. The cask represents Fortunato's demise. Fortunato takes the hook, line, and the sinker for the amontillado which probably was never even there in the first place.

Video Relation with the Story

This video is relevant to the cask of amontillado's climax. In the story, Fortunato's demise is inevitable. The video shown is an internet video "trap", known as a Rickroll. Although harmless, it provides a close relationship to the demise Fortunato recieved. On the Internet, getting "Rick rolled" meant your "walking" in on an inevitible trap, while the sender of the video, like Montresor, having his plan furfilled. One just doesnt see it coming just like how Fortunato couldn't predict the outcome of his final trip.

"A succession of loud and shrill screams. bursting suddenly from the throat of the chained form, seemed to thrust me violently back." (pg. 217)

This quote shows significance because it shows the amount of fear that is going through Fortunato. This fear also reached Montresor, and thus it scared him. This fear also shows the pressure in the story.

The cask of amontillado:

In the sotyr, the cask represents Fortunato's demise. Fortunato agrees to go to the tomb to have one of two outcomes: Montresor's humiliation of a false find, or a rare wine he can drink. These outcomes in Fortunato's head makes him fall in flattery for everything Montresor says, in order to have an outcome after going into the tomb. After Montresor says the casket is in a room, Fortunato falls immediately for the trap, not noticing anything but finding the casket: the symbol which led him to his doom.
