In the poem, "To a Mouse", by Robert Burns, Steinbeck intertwined his theme with Robert Burns' poem. Robert Burns said in the poem "In proving foresight may be vail." this relates to Steinbeck's quote from George "An’ live off the fatta the lan..." Roberts Burns quote means that we are all deep out trying to plan the future and in Steinbeck's quote that is what Goerge is doing. A second way Steinbecks quotes relate to Robert's poem is when Robert says "And leave us nothing but grief and pain..." This relates to the end of Steinbeck's novel " The brush seemed filled with cries..." These two quotes relate by showing us that dreams just end and upset us but for a second it opens us up to a new dream. Then we bring it back by realizing at the dream is gone. With Robert Burns's poem and the novel, you could bring together the two stories.
