Bring recycling materials (PET bottles, paper, cardboard, bottle caps, aluminum cans, plastic, straws, magazines);
Bring cardboard for the group activity, depending on the number of students present in class and the number of groups;
Bring bowls of the color of the recycling cans;
Bring glue, scissors, tape, pen, colored pencil, etc;
Check the projector and the sound box of the class;
Bring a device to play the video.

The students will recall previous knowledge about environmental literacy (P21)
They’ll have to communicate and collaborate (competencies of WEF), be creative, and use social awareness (character quality of WEF);
The students will think about responsible consumption and production (prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse) and learn to integrate sustainability into their daily lives (UNESCO sustainable goal - 12);
The students will be able to recognize and use color and recycling materials vocabulary in English (Bloom’s Taxonomy);
The students will have to distinguish the different types of materials, their use, and how to recycle them (Bloom’s Taxonomy).

Opening to Lesson

The teacher will ask students what they know about recycling (intercultural - moment of discovering);

Contextualize their background recycling knowledge with color vocabulary;

Ask the students:

what they know about recycling;
which materials can be used for this action;

The teacher will place the bowls of the colors of recycling cans on the table for all the students to visualize.

Body of Lesson

The teacher will bring small colored containers as an example of the normal ones used to recycle in everyday life and explain the types of materials that can be recycled. The material will be presented by speaking and visual elements.

Explain the recyclable vocabulary items that were brought by the teacher and how to recycle them by the colors of the trash cans. The teacher will show the items and will show which material goes into each bowl;

Indepedent Practice

The teacher may assign students to groups of 4 or 5 dividing them according to the recycling colors.

After the groups are divided, explain to the students that they must use paper cardboard to make a visual representation and present ideas on how to reuse waste products, with their respective recycling color chosen (intercultural - moment of approaching and manifestation):

They will have to put on the cardboard the vocabulary of the subject proposed in class;
The students will have to present examples of recycling materials studied;
The students will have to present how to recycle the materials proposed by themselves.

Encourage the students to use different material resources (for example: glue, scissors, tape, pen, colored pencil, etc. The teacher will bring these materials for them) in their cardboard to express their ideas and creativity.

Once students have completed the activity, they will present what they produce d to the class. Minimum of 5 minutes, maximum of 10 minutes.

The teacher will give feedback on each group’s presentation.

The teacher will ask the students to hang the cardboard in a visible place for all other students to see.

Assessment

Students will be assessed through their participation during the lesson (if all the members of the group have helped with the production of the cardboard), and the final production (cardboard about recycling and presentation)

If the student understood the subject;
If the students can talk about the materials presented in class;
If the students can think about other materials besides those presented in class and how to recycle them.

If all the students spoke on the presentation and if they actively participated in the production of the cardboard.
