Needs/Asset assessments focus on the needs and the assets in the school/community. RBA helps to tie in the intended outcome and a tool for measuring success.

Needs assessment tells you what types of supports/programs/services are needed. RBA comes after you implement those things to tell you if they are actually helping to address the need in a positive manner.

Progress monitoring is done frequently to see changes in real time. RBA is done less frequently at specific points in time (such as the end of a semester, end of year) to give a longitudinal look with more space and time passing to give a bigger picture
