I have been lucky enough to teach at Rothwell Primary Primary school for over 16 years. I am so proud of the ethos and the caring nurturing environment we have created, always with children at the centre of every vision. I have been Key Stage 1 Phase leader for over 10 years and feel privileged to work with such a dedicated staff team. I love teaching in Key Stage 1 as I feel that it is a pivotal moment in children's learning journey. Seeing the progress they make, the increase in independence and lightbulb moments makes it all worth while.

In my spare time I love to go on adventures with my daughter and husband. We recently got a pet rabbit who is quickly becoming part of the family and I'm sure will provide us with many funny stories.

Homework
In Key Stage 1, children will receive a tick list outlining the recommended times spent on each activity at home each week. These include numbots/TTrockstars, Reading book, Spelling Frame/Teach Your Monster and letter formation.

Your child should have all of their log in details for these sites stuck in the front of their Reading Record. Please tick and date the homework sheet to indicate when they have completed them. The reading record can be used to record how your child is doing with their reading and to ask any questions. These will be checked once a week on a Wednesday, when your child's book is collected in.

Mrs Fowley– Year 1 Teacher

It is a pleasure to teach in Class 1 at Rothwell Primary and I have taught here for 16 years. Over my time , I have taught in Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Lower Key Stage Two. I love teaching in Year 1 and feel passionate about ensuring all pupils meet their full potential. I am the PSHE lead across school and I ensure that the children's mental health and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do!

In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family and going out for days with my two beautiful children. I enjoy going swimming and listening to music.

Everyday Materials
In this unit we will be identifing the different materials used to make everyday objects that we can find in our classroom and at home. We will be discussing their properties and working scientifically to group them in different ways. We will also begin to explore changes that happen to materials when they are heated and cooled.

Our first writing focus will be based on the book 'The Colour Monster goes to School' It is great story to prepare children for the transition into their new year group as it is all about feelings and emotions which link to our Zones of Regulation which we will continue to develop.

We will begin to look at different sentence types and sequence the story.

During Autumn term children will be working scientifically to identify, name, classify and name 5 common flowers from seed and name and classify trees found in the wild or in the garden.

Materials

As part of our learning we will be imersing ourselves in various materials. We will be able to say how a material feels and name things that are made out of the different materials, foer example wood, plastoc, glass and metal.
