a. Which tools you found most useful/engaging and believe you'll use again in the future with your classes?

I really like using Kahoot! for revising previously covered vocabulary at the start of lessons.

I have started using Padlet as a means of asking follow-up questions in the middle of the lesson, just to ensure we are all up to speed (e.g. ask a question which was answered 20 minutes earlier in a presentation, etc.). I have begun asking students to post questions when they are not sure of something (to include shy students).

Quizlet is also a favourite for sets. When a lesson ends a little early, I sometimes instruct students to practice AWL on Quizlet.

I had encountered Flax in a Pre-sessional course last year and want to show students it more often.

I have list upon list of all the s that have been introduced on the course and will endeavour to try each one.
The sheer volume of technologies available and the best ways to utilise them will keep me busy for months and years to come, I am sure.

b. What have you learnt about using technology in the classroom and how will this change your classroom practice?

Some students continue to allow themselves to be distracted by their phones once we use them. I have started to encourage them to bring in their laptops to use rather than their phones as students then tend to be more work focused rather than 'messaging' focused.

I have noticed that students do really enjoy the introduction of the technology element and they very often figure out how to do things on the apps when I am unsure. This means that I am learning from students in yet another way!

I feel very positive about using these tools in the classroom, which I did not before - I had been rather intimidated by them at first. So I am evolving in my approach to lessons.

I am also working on using flipped learning more now that I am able to share things with students electronically outside the classroom and then going through these within the classroom, which follows my aims to encourage independent learning and study habits.

c. What areas or questions about technology would you like to explore further?

I am still a little overwhelmed by all of the tools out there. I want to be able to have these things at my fingertips the way David, Nick, Claire and so many of the others on the course do.

So I would like to explore using some of the tools in a way that really helps the students to get to where they need to be academically.

It would be interesting to see if I can save the really useful tools in apps such as Evernote and recycle those to show new students every year/term.

I have really found it useful to see how other teachers are using technologies so I would like to explore sharing ideas more often with colleagues to actually see these things in action.

I have found with many of the students I worked with last term as well as the ones this term that they are somehow not managing to find and use academic sources for their work. It seems that I have had to show them individually how to access these.

I started off trying to use Browzine, being very excited about showing them how to search for and save academic journal articles but I found that our university is not yet in the list there.

I decided to use Evernote on the students' essay topic of childhood obesity. I found a few journal articles on the students' essay topic of childhood obesity and saved them in a notebook.
We then had a lesson where I introduced Evernote to students and asked them to open an account. I then shared the link with the students and asked them to open the list in their app. For homework they had to find 3 more academic journal articles to share with the group. We all had to examine them to ensure that they were acceptable according to the criteria (relevance, reliability, authority, etc.)

Thank you for including me in this course. I have really enjoyed reading the forums, sometimes getting screen shots or printing the comments on how others are doing collaborative cloud-based tasks and how they are working on writing in the classroom - there are a wealth of great ideas out there!

Finally, thank you for extending my deadline as I had fallen uncomfortably behind on the work. It is a relief to finally have caught up and worked on the final assignment.

Bonnie :)
