Breathing refers to a voluntary and biophysical action that our body performs. We also term it as ventilation. It occurs when we inhale and exhale air through the help of our lungs.Respiration refers to an involuntary and biochemical action that our body cells perform. During this process, the glucose and oxygen convert into water and carbon dioxide. Hence, it results in releasing energy in the form of ATP.

breathing; it is the mechanical process during which air is inhaled in to the lungs through the mouth and nose due to muscle contraction and exhaled due to muscle relaxation. it has two phases inspiration and expiration. were as respiration is a chemical reaction that happens in all living cells including plants cells and animal cells. it is the process in which cells use oxygen to break down sugar and obtain energy.

Breathing is the process of inhalation and exhalation of gases e.g. Oxygen and Carbon dioxide to and from the body which occurs extracellularly in coordination with internal body and the external environment, it is both voluntary and involuntary in action, furthermore no energy production and loss takes place here , no enzymatic function is involved in breathing , it involves the mouth, pharynx and lungs for its mechanism. In contrast Respiration is intracellular(occurs in the cell organelles) process which involves the breakdown of glucose to provide nutrient to the body by involving certain chemicals to the process , it is involuntary in action, energy is generated and utilized in this process, many enzymes functions in this process, So in a nutshell we can say that both the processes are distinct but are interrelated.

Breathing is a voluntary process in which we inhale and exhale air from the surrounding. It is actually exchange of gases when we inhale it goes O2 into the lungs and from their exhange O2 with Carbon dioxide through alveoli whereas in respiration involuntary process going on which air comes into lung in respiration process it goes to the blood and supply to the cells and tissues . It store chemical engergy in the form of ATPin the body and released when body requires.

Munazza Amjad
