The Kongo Empire, was located in West-Central Africa and created trade with Portugal. The Asante Empire was located in West Africa, and traded with Portugal.

The main geographic features of Africa are the Sahara Desert, Niger River, Congo River, Horn of Africa, and the Cape of Good Hope. The Sahara Desert is the biggest desert in Africa and was used for the Trans-saharan trade route. The Niger River was the main river for the west part of Africa and went through the countries of Nigeria and Mali. The Congo River is the second biggest river in Africa and provided water to many parts of the continent.

The Songhai and the Asante empires were the two major empires in the western part of Africa. The Songhai mostly practice their indigenous religions but the rulers mostly practice Islam. Songhai was also the cultural center of Africa do to the amount of trade with foreign nations and Empires. The Asante Empire practice their indigenous religions. And threats from European counties of invasion and other African empires which caused it to be a militaristic society.
