But things should be changed at the systemic level so it's not on us or the students to do this all through rules and willpower alone. Students have a right to need to move and eat. We should not be meeting for full days or keeping a schedule like this if that means we have to insist the students are changing a ton of their behaviors. Trying to rigidly control movement and eating isn't the humane way through this. If we can't change the schedule, we could agree to treat Monday's as a catch up day. This will keep kids who are absent from getting too behind. Students may feel encouraged to get called out if they don't need to be in class to get caught up. This would also give teachers more time to digitize content and keep things online for students who are sick.
