The Rambunctious Rainforest by Bremer and Wachtel by Karsten Bremer

The tropical rainforest is very rainy as its name implies. The rainfall can reach up to 400 inches in one year. Tropical rainforests are one of the oldest biomes on Earth and therefore have a great variety of animals living there. About half of all known species of plants and animals live in the tropical rainforest. These are all features of the rainforest that make it unique

One of the primary consumers in the Madagascar's tropical rainforest is the bamboo lemur. These lemurs have adapted to only eat bamboo. Bamboo has poisonous leaves, this cause most animals to be unable to eat it. This causes bamboo to be abundant. The lemur's strong teeth and jaws allow them to break through the tough outer layer of the bamboo.

The python is a secondary consumer, it can reach seven feet in length. They have adapted by suffocating or squeezing their prey to death. Every time the prey tries to take a breath, the python will squeeze it again until their heart stops. Then entire prey is digested in the snakes stomach except for the fur and feathers. The green coloring of the python makes it easy for them to hide in the trees and foliage.

Rainforests have the most precipitation of any biome. This is due to most rainforests being near the equator. This causes rapid transpiration and evaporation because of heat. That is why the rainforest is the wettest biome. The high rainfall makes a rapid generation of plants and therefore an abundance of animals.

There are four layers in the rainforest. The first layer is the Emergent Layer. In this layer huge trees conquer most of the area. There are often high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds. The second layer is the Canopy layer. In this layer trees form a huge canopy connected by vines 60 to 90 feet up. 90% of organisms in the rainforests live here. The third layer is the Understory. This layer is home to young trees and many vegetation that can withstand low sunlight. The final layer is the Forest Floor. There is a low amount of sunlight that reaches this layer. Not much vegetation occurs here. On the floor there is a thin layer of decaying organic matter.
