         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Students with complex communication needs should be provided with assistive technology that allows them to efficiently and effectively engage in a variety of communication interactions with various communication partners, rather than finding an assistive technology solution to a student's communication problem.<br><br>- Communication occurs when the motivation to communicate a message outweighs the physical effort, cognitive effort, and time required to compose it. Communication will not occur if the effort or time required to produce a message is greater than the motivation to communicate it. When a student realizes that communication can be both powerful and enjoyable, he or she becomes motivated.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Communication-</strong> A complicated process that takes various forms and serves various purposes depending on the context, the communication's intent, and the communication partner. It refers to the process of exchanging information and ideas between communication partners or among a group of communication partners. The process of exchanging information about our wants/needs, experiences, ideas, thoughts, and feelings is known as communication.<br><br><strong>Multi-Modal Process-</strong> A research and development field that processes signals and combines information from a variety of modalities – speech, vision, language, and text – to improve the understanding, modeling, and performance of human-computer interaction devices or systems that improve human-human communication.<br><br><strong>Assistive technology-</strong> Used to help individuals with complex communication needs<strong> </strong>effectively and efficiently communicate. These devices can be low tech or high tech. low tech example is a visual printed out schedule and high tech example is a speech generated device. <strong><br><br>&nbsp;Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC)-</strong> Used to maximize communication abilities of individuals who's speech has been temporarily or permanently impaired.&nbsp; Uses aided and un aided symbols. <br><br><strong>Aided symbols-</strong> require some type of tangible representation.&nbsp; Such as real objects, letters, pictures, ect.&nbsp;</div><div><br><strong>Unaided symbols- </strong>Involve body movements such as gestures, sign language ect.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
