The video "Conferencing with a middle schooler" was a powerful example of how students open up when they feel comfortable and supported by their teachers. Throughout the exchange, it was evident that the teacher used an approach and language that disarmed the student and allowed her to show her depth of understanding all while helping her to realize how to summarize the book.

I've used breakout rooms in Google Meet a little bit and they could be very helpful for conferencing. I think the idea of using Flipgrid for asynchronous conferring is also potentially beneficial. In my class, these would be most beneficial when analyzing primary sources and writing about them. Feedback is key when students are practicing the skills of working with difficult texts and other types of primary sources.

This was a very informative piece on video conferencing and I would love to see something put together for students to see and be exposed to. This week students were asked to complete some collaborative review of projects/ infographics. The process was a great experience for those individuals that had completed work on time, and started modeling this process.

It has been a really positive addition to our lesson time.

The problem I'm finding is there are struggles with this practice when the students come to the rooms unprepared. The girl in the video is an obvious reader and certainly somewhat of a different representative of our typical middle school learners. Conferring is a wonderful idea nonetheless.

T. Sliva

Great information. I will try more conferencing to form stronger bonds with students, hopefully leading to more student engagement.
