After reading, IL Vision 20/20 and evidence based funding model, what potential problems can rise? Is this applicable without a state budget?

Without a state budget 20/20 is not applicable. I would love to see reduced class sizes for grades K-3, but I have a difficult time visualizing that. Schools would need to expand their buildings. If the average K-3 class has 24-27 students with 2-3 sections of each, your looking at needing to find classroom space to double the current standard. The schools would be better off hiring an extra teacher and reducing the student-teacher ratio. I also wonder if we'll see a rise in special ed labeling if schools get money per spec ed child, they won't fight to hard to keep kids out of special ed.
Tiffany

I do not think any of the models with work without a budget. I do not think the state will ever follow-up with their promises. I am constantly worried about case load and class size for all teachers. The numbers always seem to be right on the edge in small schools, and probably big schools as well. Most of my background has been in small districts and schools.

Hilari

I do not see this happening without a budget. Smaller class sizes and more specific allocation of funds would be great. Our district is almost completely full but there is no funding to add to or build new schools to spread out the amount of students. If we had a balanced budget in the state it would be great to see an evidence based funding model.

Tori

I would love to see smaller class sizes, more technology, and tutoring services, but I don't see this happening anytime soon. Without a budget, schools aren't receiving what is owed to them. Some schools are struggling to keep what they have, let alone to add services. There just isn't enough money.

Cecilia

Nothing is going to applicable until Illinois passes a budget unfortunately. Small class sizes would be great! Our school currently is maxed out per class and caseloads are ridiculous. We finally got approved to hire another sped teacher but I will still have 18 students next year and possibly more depending on numbers.

Tammy

I do not believe this is applicable without a state budget, and unfortunately I think all of our districts are already owed so much money I don't know how they're going to dig out of this hole. I still don't completely understand Vision 20/20 and how it works, but I hear our superintendents talk about it a lot and this article did shine some light on it for me. I do like the research based practices funded by the EBM that were discussed in the article, but since they're things that would cost the district more, I don't understand how we would receive those funds when we're already not paid what we are owed. Something needs to change and I don't think the burden should keep going back to the taxpayers, so its definitely worth investigating.
Patti

This would support more learners and provide necessary services, yet money keeps being taken away. Shawn Mann
