At the end, I went over the kernels one more time to add even more color. I used acrylic gel to give the corn stem more texture. In the background, I lightly painted the sky with different colors to add depth to that too. In the end, I finished with a corn rocket flying through the sky.

I began my painting with a small quick sketch of the basic outline of the corn. Once I finished the outline, I started using different colors of watercolor to paint in the kernels. I darkened the outer edges of the kernels to make the painting look less flat.

I went over the kernels a few more times to add more depth to them. I also tried to make the kernels bleed down lower. So I spread the colors downward.

I began my corn drawing using pencil and then color pencils. I experimented with different colors and blended them together to try to make the kernels look as realistic as possible. Once I was happy with my idea, I began to use watercolor paints.
