2. Centralising the knowledge base and the content for a more effective Hasbara campaigns.

3. Empowering the non Jewish and younger audiences to better defend Israel and assist with the wider fight against anti Semitism.

Everyone in Israel should be able to practice their vision of what it means to be Jewish, within the confines of the three major streams of Judaism - Orthodox, Conservative and Reform.

Practical Recommendations:

1. Jewish leaders should promote understanding abroad of the democratic nature of the state of Israel, i.e. Arabs voting and being elected to Knesset, appointments to Supreme Court, to senior IDF positions etc.

2. The statement "Israel is the only democratic state in the Middle East" should not remain in the realm of cliche and focus on majority rule alone, but must include attributes of liberal democracy such as rule of law, protection, minorities etc. that are respected in Israel.

3. Jewish leaders should also stress the connection between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel that stretches back 3800 years, to Father Abraham, the Tribes of Israel, the Kings of Israel, the Temples with a direct and unbroken connection until today.

THREE INSIGHTS

• Students are really scared. Campuses are deeply divided around Israel, which has led to increased antisemitism. There is a lot of leftist antisemitism that comes from a lack of recognition of intersectionality and Jew’s place in DEI work. This gives rise to views of “Jewish colonization”, “oppression”, and undue influence. “There was a student protest at the building where I was studying,” a sophomore from Panama City and the University of Pennsylvania said. “They were shouting, ‘Genocide for Jews.’ There’s a lot of leftist antisemitism with intersectionality and DEI." There are issues with faculty that allow antisemitism to run rampant. They are working to make current events relevant to current events.”

• An increasing number of faculty across various disciplines are poisoning the minds of all students with extremist thinking, DEI and other woke ideology.

• Generational Issues: intersectional ideology from peers is alienating students on and off campus. Meanwhile, academics are reinforcing such themes by accepting and injecting invectives such as “Israeli occupation, apartheid, nazism” into the classroom. The misappropriation of such terminology as “indigenous” to refer to Palestinians, for example, when it historically applies to Jews is further advancing alienation among Jewish college students. To a limited extent, people are suddenly beginning to wake up to the consequences of woke behavior. Yet, the words continue to penetrate campus protests and classroom discussions.

THREE PATHS TOWARD SOLUTION

• Prevention: Groups should proactively deepen their education of history, culture and heritage to prepare them for what they could face on campuses. We must arm Jewish students with the knowledge to combat biased and uneducated perspectives. The international president of StandWithUs mentioned her conference with 400 high school and college students to achieve such results. Hillel International, Israel Policy Forum, Jewish On Campus, Students Supporting Israel, the World Union of Jewish Students, and other organizations also offer programming toward these aims. “Tikkun Olam” and social justice concepts must be refined, so as not to trigger anti-Israel behavior. Explain Israel as a model of Tikkun Olam (Ex: signage in Israel is in Arabic, Hebrew and English; Arabs serve in all facets of Israel life.) Educate people on these realities.

• There is money pouring into college campuses which paves the way for students to incite anti-Israel behavior and otherwise negatively influence life for Jewish students. This money comes from organizations and states, including Qatar, who stand against Israel. These funds provide opportunities for serious Muslim students, but also students who incite anti-Israel behavior.  University presidents need to be alerted of such activity and made aware of its implications and consequences.

 • Go on offense, influence university leadership. Litigation likely will be needed to curb antisemitic behavior. Hillels, Chabad and other organizations are working to create “safe” environments, though they must all be more focused, unified and adamant in defending the security and sovereignty of the Jewish State against the extremist adversaries who empathize the “from the river to the sea” rhetoric. Less-informed or misinformed Jewish students often exhibit too much sensitivity to Israel’s adversaries.
