Venetians are protesting Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s upcoming lavish wedding in Venice, criticizing it as a symbol of inequality and overtourism. Around 300 young, underemployed locals gathered near the Rialto Bridge, vowing to block the event with boats and bodies. Activists argue such events offer only temporary jobs and worsen the city’s housing and service crises. City officials, however, defend the wedding, citing economic benefits and global visibility for Venice. The protests echo past successful movements like the “No Grandi Navi” campaign but have sparked division over whether Venice should welcome or resist billionaire celebrations.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/17/travel/jeff-bezos-wedding-protests-divide-venice

An Air India Boeing 787 crash in Ahmedabad has killed at least 270 people, making it the world’s deadliest air disaster in a decade. The plane, bound for London, lost height seconds after takeoff and crashed into a medical college hostel, with only one survivor out of 242 onboard. India’s aviation minister announced urgent inspections of all Boeing 787s in the country, while investigations are underway into engine and structural failures. Families are struggling to identify remains, with doctors using dental records and DNA due to severe burns. The crash has dealt a major blow to Air India’s ongoing efforts to rebuild its reputation under Tata Group ownership.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/14/india/air-india-crash-being-inspection-intl
