He got the idea when he grabbed a biography on Hamilton to read while on vacation. While reading he said "hip hop lyrics were just spilling off the page." It took him six years to write the musical, and boy is it paying off. Miranda is often referred to as "a modern day Shakespeare." It has broken through all the barriers on what modern day Broadway musical are expected to be. Hamilton is teaching so many about history in a fun way that anyone can enjoy, which is so important.
