Did the course meet your expectations? Why or why not?

Yes, I believe that the course met my expectations and exceeded them. I learned so much about the different types of students I may have in the future, the different methods to help them learn, and the ways to accommodate in a neurotypical classroom. I actually saved all the links that were provided throughout each of the modules so that I can go back and read more in-depth and have those resources for myself in the future if I ever have questions, concerns, or just to read something that is relevant in my own everyday life. As a parent to children who require IEPs, I learned more that I can also do to make sure that they are successful along with my future students.

Did you meet your own expectations of yourself?

I did not meet my own expectations. I tend to set very high standards for myself and can get frustrated when I do not meet them. I had to work a lot harder than I expected to truly understand some of the material, and I did not go as in-depth with some of my assignments as I believe I should have. While I am proud of myself for learning what I have, I am disappointed because I believe I am capable of so much more.

What learning experiences will you "take with you" as a future teacher?

Experiences I believe I will truly take with me as a future teacher are centered around what I viewed during my observations. I learned so much actually viewing what methods the teachers use, the games they play, and reinforcements in the SPED classroom. I saw how effective it is when children see their progress firsthand and how proud they are when they get to help record that progress. I was also privileged to see how what looks like simple games, can gather a child's interest while actually reinforcing those learned skills (CH, TH, TR pronunciations) and the students are none the wiser. As a result of my observations the principal of my local elementary school I tracking my progress in college and requested that when I graduate to apply to work with her school first. I have gained teacher allies and mentors that I did not expect to gain.

What changes would you make if any?

A change I would make is simply due to the way my brain learns. When it comes to creating things like an Individualized Learning Plan, I would have had an easier time if I had seen HOW to create one. I do better with step by step examples so that I can understand how to approach it and create something myself. If there was more content showing HOW to as apposed to just content stressing the importance, it might help others like myself. I did a lot of research to try and understand what I was doing.
