         <description><![CDATA[<div>Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880. She grew up in Tuscumbia, AL. She was the first of two daughters to be born. She had two older stepbrothers. Her father severed as an officer in Confederate Army during Civil War. Her family was not wealthy, and she lost her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months old. She had a illness. When she was six years old, she was a quick learner. With only three months she learned the manual alphabet or known as the sign language. She also learned the braille alphabet</div>]]></description>

Helen wanted to learn to speak and so in 1890, she began taking speech classes at Horace Mann School for the deaf. After 25 years of hard work and practicing, she spoke in a voice others could understand!</div>]]></description>
