Thinking back to last week's workshop on Effective Cover Letters and C.V.s, a lot of these skills can be conveyed using commonly used explicit and implicit criteria. 

For example, references to report writing, presentation delivery, written and oral communication all equate to effective communication.

Other traits come to mind too; for example, skills in working under pressure, in difficult environmental conditions (AND!) with difficult people could represent adaptability. 

The key is in citing the criteria using the language in the position/program description then using these skills and examples of their use and/or development to demonstrate your 'so what'. Spell it out for those reading your submission.
