Offer Alternatives: “If we can’t share this one, here are some other toys you can play with.”

Example: Instead of saying 'Stop fighting!' over a toy, say 'You can take turns with the toy, or you can find another toy to play with until it’s your turn.'

Example: “Let’s pick up the blocks together, and after we finish, we can play with your favorite toy for a few minutes.”

Breaking tasks into smaller parts also helps the child feel successful and gives them something to look forward to.

Stay Calm – Use a gentle tone and body language.
Acknowledge Feelings – “I see you're upset. Let’s take a break in the calming corner.”
Offer a Choice – “Would you like to sit with a stuffed animal or look at the feelings book?”
Use Visual Cues – Point to the area or use a picture card.
Model & Guide – Sit with them if needed, practicing deep breaths or other calming techniques.
Encourage Self-Regulation – Let them decide when they’re ready to return.

The goal is to help children reset, not punish them. A supportive approach makes cool-down time a helpful, positive experience!

Redirection: You gently stop her and say, “Whoa, Mia! I see you have lots of energy! Let’s use our walking feet inside so everyone stays safe.”

Alternative Activity: “If your body needs to move, let's do some animal walks! Do you want to hop like a bunny or stomp like a dinosaur to the next center?”

Reinforcement: As she engages, you say, “Great choice! You’re moving your body in a safe and fun way!”

This keeps her engaged while channeling her energy appropriately!
