During the first season of the show, Laura is in her pre-teens, around 11-13 years old. Laura is often narrates parts of the show and is essentially the main focus of the show. Laura is a curious child who wonders about the world around her. Although she is generally portrayed as an innocent type of character,  her curiosity often leads her to explore some of the harsher realities of life and adapts to them with the help of her parents. She is also somewhat of a tomboy and takes after her father more than her mother, although she adores both of them. They also spend time going out for picnics like they did in the first episode. The family went out for a picnic in the field and relaxed in the sun while Charles flew a kite. Unfortunately this led to some problems as it got stuck in a try and when Charles went to rescue it, he fell out of the tree and broke some of his ribs. Charles had previously been taking on multiple jobs to pay for the crop he needed for his field. With him bed stricken, he wasn't able to provide for the family. His daughters were worried for their father and tried their best to help him. Caroline proved that she was quite the capable woman when she went out to work the field in Charles place.    My father, for instance,  can be compared to Charles in the sense that he provides for our family and brings in the money. He is also hard working and a sociable person that gets along with most people just as Charles did.
  My older brother can be compared with Mary due to the sibling rivalry that exists between him and I. He is also a bit snarky which bears relation to Mary's moxie.

Some differences include the fact that I rarely interact with my brother where as the Ingalls sisters have a constant dynamic between them. Also their family ideals consist of hard work where as I am quite lazy.
