         <title>Strategy -“Hand Signals”/show cardsMost of the time we never ask students what they learn in a different way. Did you understand? How much did you understand? And sometimes it also happens that students even unable to answer these questions especially in junior school some students are unable to construct lengthy sentences to show their understanding so this strategy is helpful to increase participation of such students in classroom. And also to increase their thinking process and to evaluate themselves. It also helped teacher to reflect on her lesson delivery. My goal was to use “hand signals” to check their understanding / learning during and after the lesson. Students were told how to use hand signals/show card to rate the understanding of the content. They were told to use/show three fingers in case of maximum understanding or one finger to show minimum understanding with the content under discussion. After given these guidelines I have modelled the expected behaviors from students twice and then asked one student to model the same to develop further understanding of the rest of the class to use signals. They were very enthusiastic as indicated from their expressions.The lesson started and at the end of lesson we started using our strategy. Teacher counted the responses at the end of the lesson. 63% students showed three fingers, 20% students showed two fingers and 17% students showed one finger. She revised the concept once again until everyone showed at least two or three fingers. After that teacher gave the worksheet where students were supposed to differentiate between different types of materials. Result was amazing. Almost 90 percent student did the worksheet correctly.This activity helped my students to not only actively take part in teaching learning process but to enhance their thinking as well, because at the end they have to rate their understanding.
