Learners are randomly placed into 1 of 4 Scenarios, using their i.d. numbers. Each group must read a realistic school school event in which a student needs assistance. Each member is assigned a role-student, teacher, parent, friend. The group must develop a conversation which should end with the student making appropriate choices. The conversation may be typed in the comments on Padlet, like a script, or recorded as audio and posted on Padlet. Each group member should have at least 3 lines of speaking. Before starting, read the scenario and discuss with your group on how you want your narrative to be communicated. On the left, an example has been posted for you to review.

Grade 4 – Classroom Rules (Breaking the Rules)
Omar, a fourth grader, grows restless during independent math practice. Instead of working on his assignment, he starts passing notes to friends even though the teacher has reminded the class about staying focused. Omar knows the rule but chooses to break it, hoping to entertain himself and get attention. When he’s caught, he insists he “wasn’t doing anything bad.” His struggle lies in making responsible choices that balance his need for connection with respecting classroom expectations.

She wants to be the one to draw, but she doesn’t speak up when the others assign her the “clean-up” role. Later, when her teacher checks in, Aanya seems disengaged and frustrated, because she feels her ideas weren’t considered and she didn’t get a chance to make a meaningful choice in the group.

In one lesson about local government, several classmates shared their ideas enthusiastically, while Mateo stayed silent. Later, in his journal, he wrote that he disagreed with some of the points but felt nervous about “sounding wrong.” His difficulty advocating for his perspective limits his participation and prevents him from contributing valuable insights to the group.

Even though the teacher had said students could select any genre, Sofia writes an essay on recycling but puts little effort into it.
