After reading "Divergent", Veronica Roth wants readers to know that we are all extremely unique and precise pieces to a puzzle. We are here for a reason, and we are made the way we are for a purpose. If one piece of the puzzle goes missing or is no longer shaped as intended, the piece won't fit into the puzzle and it will not be complete.

In the book divergent the people are separated into factions according to their aptitude. The five factions consist of Abnegation (The selfless), Amity (The peaceful), Candor (The honest), Dauntless (The brave), and Erudite (The intelligent), Each faction is extremely different but they all contribute to their society. If one piece of the puzzle is removed or one faction is removed from society the system will fail or the puzzle will not be complete.

Even though todays world appears to be so different from the world in divergent, we are the same. In divergent they are separated into factions that all rely on each other. Unlike the factions we are all spread out amongst each other, like a world the factions would label our society "the land of divergent". Unlike them we don't categorize others according to one characteristic. We celebrate our differences in realization that as a whole our differences are what make us stronger. The factions are all single minded but combine the works of these single minds to run society. Here people are free to run to their full potential and not be limited by the enforcement and encouragement of single minded thinking. In both the world of the factions and our own we depend on each others differences for our survival, in unity we come together and build each other up as one.

In "Divergent" to be brave, selfless, smart, kind, and honest is to be divergent, these types of people are meant to be dangerous and do not belong to one faction. An individual is never just Kind or smart or brave. We are a combination of several different characteristics combined. We are all uniquely shaped to fit one design. Imagine a world where we are all the same, there are no differences. Imagine a puzzle that is made up only of circles all equivalent in size. The puzzle wouldn't stay together the pieces would have spaces in-between them and fall apart, just as a society with one single mind would no longer be a society. Mutualism would no longer be required and we would all desire control causing our world as we know it to fade and crumble into pieces.

We all have flaws, we are all unique, but no one is unique because they are flawed. It is our combination of characteristics that make us different and also what make us strong, we are unique for a reason and we should not be ashamed of that. We are shaped very precisely to fit. Each person is a piece to the picture that makes up this world. The random precision of our existence is so slim. If you take one piece of a puzzle and shift it's shape ever so slightly it won't fit. If you take one of the percentages of the earth's position in the atmosphere (eg. distance from the sun) and move it up or down by so much as one percent, life can no longer exist on earth. If you take one person and try to change them, make them better by fixing their flaws, they will no longer fit in the puzzle. We are flawed for a reason, being that we were never really flawed to begin with. Don't try to change someone, doing so could cause you to miss a beautiful picture.

We do not consist of just one characteristic. Every person has a different DNA made with a combination of several different characteristics, you will never find anyone who is only selfless, or brave, or smart. We are made uniquely for a purpose and there will always be more to someone then meet the eye. Diversity is one of the most beautiful things this world has to offer. Just as we all appear differently our personalities are all uniquely designed. We should embrace our differences and be grateful that there are people that are not like us. Without them there would be one less piece in the picture.
