His command of negative space and laid back arrangements, in combination with his use of layers and panning, influences me to be more free-form and non-traditional when making music. His inclination towards older equipment and recording techniques influences me to be more organic in my own recordings.

Vulfpeck has been a major influence of mine for a long time. As a band, they don't take themselves seriously. This is most evident in their songwriting and performance. In combination with their super funky arrangements, they influence me to create music that I actually want to make. As opposed to music I think people will like.

Lawrence has a command over vocals that I’m extremely captivated by. They transgress genre borders to create their own sound, incorporating qualities from soul, funk, r&b and gospel. Along with the content of their lyrics their music influences me to make music you can’t help but dance to, and not be afraid of breaking genre ‘borders’.

In an interview, he says referring to Neil Young’s Harvest, “I wanted to make my album sound exactly like this”(Fox, 2015). The dry, crisp and raw sounds of the album definitely influenced Mac in the making of 2 and throughout his discography.

A huge part of Mac’s iconic sound comes from his use of reel to reel tape machines and a DIY approach to making music. Mac was hugely influenced by R. Stevie Moore’s approach to making music. As a teenager he listened to R. Stevie Moore’s music and wanted to recreate the ‘sketchy’ sound in his own music (Berke & Mamana, 2017).

He has named Haruomi Hosono – the leader of YMC – as his all time favorite artist (DIFFUS, 2017). YMC’s influence is apparent in Mac’s music. From his sampling of oriental japanese music to his use of a naming convention borrowed from the drummer, Yukihiro Takahashi in his latest album (Press, 2023).

Both techniques used by EWF.

Lawrence believes in making music that represents their idea of what "pop" music should be, aiming to change people's perspective on it (Voss, 2016). This philosophy, inspired by The Beatles, means they want to challenge people's expectations of what certain ‘genres’ should be. The Beatles' innovative spirit strongly influences Lawrence's musical philosophy.
