He writes numerous costume stories where he deals with everyday life. The topics it touches the most are the love moments in women's lives as in that period they had no political power and were in all respects seen as second-rate figures compared to men. Precisely for this reason Jane will never sign her works with her real name as women were not even allowed to write literary works.

Pride and Prejudice is a romantic novella by Jane Austen dealing with the sometimes contentious love between Elisabeth Bennet and William Darcy. The two will have to face their pride and their prejudice (from which the work takes its name). Elisabeth is the daughter of a country gentleman while William is an aristocrat landowner. The social disparity of the two will often lead them to conflict. During the narration of the work William will advise his friend Charles Bingley not to marry his beloved, Elisabeth's sister, Lizzy Bennet. This attitude will create even more hatred between Elisabeth and William. The opera ends with the marriage between Elisabeth and William who manage to put aside their pride and benefit from their love.
