As the first-class began, the course was conducted by two highly dedicated lecturers which are Prof. Dr. Jamalludin bin Ab. Rahman and Dr. Hafizah binti Pasi. At first, I was wondering why IIUM has to create this kind of class. But with time, i learnt from Prof Jamal that this class create a lot of opportunities. As a student, this kind of coursework actually gives us a chance to pay back to our society. As my for myself, i live in a good life so i think i will learn more about people in the rural area. I feel excited to feel and explore how people in rural lives. As for my group, we will have a visit to Kampung Pagi, Jerantut. From my research Kampung Pagi is a village that located in a far inland and far away from town. Kampung Pagi also has an attraction for tourist such as their mountain since they are located in between of Tembeling River and Taman Eko Rimba Ulu Tembeling. There are a lot of information that already shared by Prof Jamal including their health status, education and their social. My most concern is village’s hygiene that is important to completing our world Sustainable Development Goals number 3 which is Good Health and Well-being. From my expectation, Kampung Pagi will have a low hygiene status because of their education and waste management. Furthermore, Kampung Pagi becomes a tourist attraction which may increase their waste product. So, for the visit to Kampung Pagi that will be held on 11th June 2022 I personally hoping that I will understand more about Kampung Pagi people and able to help them in order to increase their life quality.

At first, as I filled out the form to choose a project, I was thrilled about every project that would be undertaken for this subject. This is because this project requires students to engage in community activities. This seemed like a great opportunity for me to practice my social skills. After being confined for too long owing to the pandemic, my social skills were degrading due to my inability to meet people. Therefore, I believe that my participation in these community activities will help me hone my social skills to some extent. When researching each of the projects that will be undertaken, the Ulu Tembeling project piqued my interest. This may be due to its geographical factors. Aside from that, I am looking forward to meet the people of Ulu Tembeling. I am confident that participating in community activities through the project will help open my eyes and make me more concern about the problems faced by the surrounding community. My expectation for possible problems in Kampung Pagi is the lack of educational facilities for children. This relates with Sustainable Development Goal no 4 which ensures inclusive and equitable quality of education to all people. I hope that this project runs smoothly and meets the needs of Kampung Pagi residents especially in education. Aside from that, I hope that this project has a positive impact on everyone involved, including the Kampung Pagi residents and the students. I also hope that the residents will welcome us with open arms and will be willing to cooperate with us throughout the project. Last but not least, I am looking forward to meet the residents of Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling.

UIA 1 is a unicore subject that I had to take this semester. At first, I was like not interested to do this project for UIA 1 but after knowing the main purpose of this subject, I feel excited to learn something new with new friends. Kampung Pagi, Jerantut Pahang is a place that we will go to on 11th June to study the social or geographical problems of the people there for UIA 1. I have expected many things since Prof.Jamal give us a briefing about the project. For the first visit, we will do the observation of the kampung Pagi situation to identify the main problem that we will find a way to overcome on UIA 2 next semester. We will get to interact with various generations of people thereby doing a short survey of them. Not only that, I also expected that we will boost our social skills on that day because we need to interact directly with the Kampung Pagi people. I admit that I'm not good at communicating with people but I hope that by doing this study I can improve myself to be a better person in the future. In addition, since we (17 students) are from different kulliyyah and departments, I expected that we can build new ukhwah among us before and after the project is finished. I hope also that Prof Jamal can guide us throughout the project so that the project runs smoothly.

At first, I thought that this subject will only need us to go there and maybe so come community services like cleaning that area or maybe help gotong royong there but turns out we need to find what is the problem that people from Kampung Pagi is currently facing. My expectation from the Kampung Pagi is that I think that area will have weak to no reception. Or maybe some big telco like Celcom or Maxis might have a decent connection there. I think that we will have trouble in that area as, there might be no convenient store like 7e, so we need to make sure we bring enough things to make sure we don’t encounter any trouble. I think that people there talk with heavy Pahang accent and uses some slang so we might have some trouble chatting with them. The kids there might ask us if we get any games on your phone to play with as I think that they might not have smartphone. I’m not a social person, I hate talking to someone that I do not know. To be honest I am not looking forward to interview people there, but I hope most of them are nice to me hehe. Who knows that maybe this program will make me into a better person.

A community survey is a means of gathering information from a narrowed target group in order to better understand a problem that affects them. For Usrah in Action of Ulu Tembeling Community Survey of CCUB2163 from Section 830, Kampung Pagi is the place that we are going to visit. It is located in the region of Jerantut, Pahang and I am wondering on how to manage this visit. Based on my reading that I have done via the Internet, Kampung Pagi is an underdeveloped village because it is situated in a rural area but it is also one of the most interesting places for tourists.

Through this programme, it allows students to learn and identify the socio demographic of the community from the Kampung Pagi. The students’ task is to conduct a community survey to determine the current situation in Kampung Pagi. Thus, making this course as an essential subject for all students since this programme gives an opportunity to the students to interact with people with different backgrounds, ages and traditions.

Therefore, I am looking forward to do this community survey in Kampung Pagi as I am hoping to relate this visit with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 which is Sustainable Cities and Communities. I believe that without fundamentally altering the way we create and manage our urban environments, sustainable development would be impossible. Thus, this program hopefully will allow me to dive into the major issues of the society in the Kampung Pagi. I reckon that we can bring the notion of Rahmatan lil 'Alamin to life by putting knowledge and understanding into practice via this course activities and assessments. I am also interested in how this course will help me to improve my social skills, and I am looking forward to polishing my cooperation skills through collaborating with others.

Assalamualaikum, all praise to Allah that allow me to begin this journey of writing a reflective journal and involve in this usrah in action 1 that placed me at the Kg Pagi, Ulu Tembeling. I feel excited when the university asks students to choose their preferred community work to do in usrah in action 1 and the name of Ulu Tembeling caught my eyes. That is where it started. For the past few years, I have not been the type of person that always has expectation in something but now I do vision myself with expectation because i think in that way i can move forward with a brighter vision. From this program, I really hope that I can communicate and socialize more with the people in this big community especially while doing the community profiling later. When I first met Prof Jamal, my usrah instructor, his speech really inspired me about this community work where it opened my mind about the purpose of study and also the program. A lot of things need to be pondered after hearing the speech, some of it is about giving back to the community. Honestly speaking, I just want to get the degree and work then get married but now I visualize the world more than that, contributing to the community is also part of it. I do want to learn more and work better on my teamwork skills, bonding skills with people, and enhance effective communication. Back in school, I used to be shy, shy to initiate communication. My father once got angry at me and said don't be shy at the wrong places. When I pass the high school phase I start to know more about the importance of communication. With it, you can be friends and create bonding with someone. I can see how people react to my questions whether they like it or not. The vibes of people can be felt through communication. Back then, Prof Jamal said something about changing the world, you need to change yourself and always think about giving back to the community, that's the only way you can see the world changing and Malaysia can be great again with a leader that has that way of thinking. However, it's not the one man job to change a country, it is a teamwork, community approach that we need to work on. I really hope when the community profiling takes place, we can analyze the real problem in the Kg Pagi because it is the key point to succeed in this community work. Lastly, a message to my usrahmates, let’s get this work done and don't forget to enjoy this journey. We can do this!.

From what I have learned and read about this Usrah In Action a new unicore subject is all about helping and giving us, IIUM students early exposure on how to think, care, help and improve the community instead of finishing the studies, graduating and getting a good job.

My first expectation for this course and the programme that my classmates and I are going to do is to take a look and observe the community of Kampung Pagi. Are there any problems related to their health, hygiene, environment, economy or others? There will be plenty of questions in my head about the community in Kampung Pagi. Plus, the objective of our first visit to the Kampung Pagi is to collect the data and identify the needs of this community.

Then, for the next sem where we are going to take this subject to brainstorm and apply our idea in the form of a programme including the community in Kampung Pagi. This programme surely needs to be sustainable and bring long term benefits to the whole community.

I am hoping that my classmates and I will be able to manage and handle the whole visit and achieve our goal of giving to the needs of the community in Kampung Pagi.

At the beginning of the class, I thought that this class was about listening to a lecturer give a lecture about religion, explaining more about Islam. But, when we have to choose a project for this subject, I think we will visit places like travel. Until the first meeting with all the classmates and Prof Jamal and Dr Hafizah, I was completely ‘empty’ and had no idea what we were going to do. I feel a little scared and nervous when thinking about this subject. After listening and reading the materials provided as well as asking other colleagues about their projects, only then did I see a path to this subject. I realized that this project was very mentoring to me as it was a start for me to get closer to the community. This project will be more interesting when we do it with full energy and sincerity. Upon hearing all the explanations and hopes from Prof Jamal, I feel this is a project that has a huge impact if carried out properly even though it is quite difficult to do. It was the first experience for me to go down to the field to meet with the community to find out all the problems they face. Only then will we feel how to be the right leaders by encouraging the people to solve their problems for as much as we are able to help. I hope that I can gain a lot of experience and knowledge even if there are any flaws throughout the course of this project.

Assalamualaikum to all the readers that may spend a few minutes reading my reflective essay, especially Prof. Jamal. At first, I did not know that this course, Usrah In Action, had never been established before because I thought that this kind of course was just an advanced version of the usrah that we had registered for before. But, when I heard about what Prof. Jamal told us during our first meeting together, I asked myself, "What was the university trying to achieve by establishing this course for the first time?" Yes, it is about how we try to engage with the community and what we should do to bring us closer to those out there, despite how our mindsets and thinking might be different. Getting involved in society and facing the community's problems might be the purpose of our going to visit our location, Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling, which is about 240 km from IIUM Kuantan. Honestly, I am quite excited to go there to see the place where I have chosen to do community engagement, but I cannot hide my concern about whether I can communicate well or not with the people there as I am an introverted person. I tend to be silent if someone does not approach me first, and that sometimes makes me frustrated with myself because I do not have any idea what topic I should talk about with someone that is totally stranger to me. Hopefully, after this community engagement, I can gain something that can change my personality and make me realise the importance of community engagement to a person so that this kind of activity can be implemented for the future generation. Last but not least, I hope that I can get the chance to see something beautiful at Kampung Pagi, especially the scenery there that cannot be seen anywhere else. That is how I think I want to remember Kampung Pagi: as 'a beautiful home’.

First of all, this is a reflective journal that comprised my expectations, the event that I have experienced, and what I have learned from this course, Usrah In Action (CCUB 2163). From my point of view, I expected that we will just do ordinary things like go to Kampung Pagi to conduct "gotong royong" and that's it. I was wrong! It is actually something big to handle and still needs a lot of things to be learned and improved as I am lacking a lot of skills and knowledge. I just knew that Kampung Pagi is actually a rural area from the search that I have made. This is completely way more challenging than what I've expected because we need to do so many things before we get started. Based on what I've gone through so far, in my opinion, I think that this course had helped us to improve our teamwork and also communication among our community in the first place. This little thing is actually important to be developed before we plan to start with a bigger plan which is to go to Kampung Pagi to meet and fulfilled the needs of their community there. Other than that, after several meetings with the members of this Usrah In Action, I also felt that my teammates are great to be working with despite we never met each other before. Although I feel shy and not too confident with myself, I tried to overcome this matter as later we will go to Kampung Pagi and need to communicate well and cooperate with our own community as well as the community there. From what I have learned, everything starts with good communication skills and awesome teamwork to make things happen as planned. So, I really hope that me and my teammates can give full commitment to making this project successful. I think that is all from me. Thank you.

The first time I heard what Prof Jamal said about community profiling, it reminds me of an anime I watched few years back, which was about cullinary students going through their college life, striving and competing with each other to be the best chef of all. There was this arc where they were sent to different workplaces-high end restaurant, hotel, cafe, small retail and other eateries with different customer target, hence different set menu. They were evaluated by three stages; observation, adaptation and improvement. They were told to get along with their colleagues, understand what each workplace aimed to work on and then lastly, they should leave something useful that could give impact for their workplaces in the long run. It was honestly inspiring and exciting when I watched the anime, what's more to say when I actually get to experience the similar situation in real life-at least that's what I thought as of now. Though of course, the purpose is different, I think I might have grasped the concept here. Surely it is not going to be as easy as it was in the anime-everything went successfully well despite the hardship they went through, but I really don't want to think of it as impossible for us to do something for the community at Kampung Pagi. Truthfully, I am really nervous yet thrilled to go there for the survey and information collection.

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone! Alhamdulilah I had my opportunity to write my own reflective essay. To be honest, on our first meeting with Prof Jamal and Dr Hafizah, I’m a bit surprised to know that both of you were from the Kulliyyah of Medicine. I thought that our advisor was someone that was also from the same kulliyyah. For me, it’s quite interesting to know someone expert from different kulliyyah such both of you. By that time also, I was completely no idea what we’re going to do for this project. At that moment, I felt as if I had been chosen for a project in which I had no interest. Honestly, due to I love travelling, I chose this project since I wanted to conduct an community activity that was far of our institution as I knew that ulu tembeling was a bit far from here. But, after previewing your reading materials, I realised that this project may bring a bundle of benefits to me. Instead of being a burden, I discovered that serving others is an enjoyable experience if I found programs which catered to my interests. Participating in community service like this project allows me to become active members of the community and has a long-term, positive impact on society. Volunteering or community service also allows me to gain life skills and knowledge while also providing a service to those in need.

From my brief research, my expectations towards residents in Kampung Pagi are someone that have low socioeconomic status and poor access to technology since them are living in rural areas. As we aware, the issues faced by residents of rural communities are very different than those in urban areas. Rural residents may face disparities due to restricted access to quality health care, lack of public transportation, poor infrastructure, poverty issues and many more. But recently, I discovered that Kampung Pagi has become a tourist attraction due to beautiful landscape and nature even though it is an undeveloped village. To sum up, I sincerely hoped that our effort would not only benefit the community, but also make a positive influence in someone's life as well as we can assist them in developing mental, physical, and emotional relationships.

Thank you✨

Assalamualaikum I bid to all readers. I hope that everyone who reads this can enjoy my writing. At first, when I first heard about this course it would be like my previous course where people would gather together and learn more about Islam. That is why I randomly apply to any section without thinking of any possible things that might happen. In our first meeting with the educators through online, which are Prof Jamal and Dr Hafizah I was quite concerned about the ability that I had to ace this course. However, after my very first meeting with Prof Jamal at his office together with Diyana and Hafiz, I started to learn and realise what should I really do. As a student, I always get worried about my grades and performance without having any concern for the real world. After listening to the lectures I believe that scoring in academics is not really a success if there is no engagement with the community. As people and students from the science health stream, having an engagement is really important so that we are able to communicate and build deeper, stronger and more trusting relationships between public organizations and communities. It feels very great that we will go to the Kampung Pagi for this course so that we can interact with the residents and learn more about their life. I believe that every place has its own issues. My expectation for this first programme is that all of us would be able to meet and talk with the residents of Kampung Pagi and at the same time we can observe the community’s needs. I hope that after doing the survey and community engagement, we are not just able to solve the difficulties that are currently being faced by the community, but also sustain the solution and give an impact so that the life of the community in Kampung Pagi would be much easier. Besides, I also could gain much experience from this Usrah in action because I can learn and enhance more on my social skills, team-building and communication skills while at the same time contributing to the society. Therefore, I hope that my teammates and I would able to do this well and of course, all of us can’t wait to see the smiles of the Kampung Pagi community! That’s all from me, thank you.

During my last semester break, I was given an opportunity to choose 1 activity for my UniCore subject which is Usrah in Action 1. There were many options and I did my research at that time regarding the activities provided and Ulu Tembeling is my choice. I’ve joined our first online meeting together with my supervisor, he briefly explained about Ulu Tembeling’s activity. I was told to do community profiling at Kampung Pagi at Jerantut, Pahang. Together with my teammates, we must go there to observe the population or conditions and trends in that community. Based on my research, I found out that Kampung Pagi is located in a rural area. Therefore, I’m a lil bit excited since I have no experience of going to any rural areas.

Many meetings were held to give us some ideas on how to do community profiling. Based on the meetings, we will be divided into several groups. Some groups will conduct interviews with the villagers, other groups will identify the population and geographic patterns and so on. However, there might be a few challenges for me. Firstly, I must cooperate with new members which I’ve ever known before. I’m an introverted person, so it’s hard for me to communicate with new people. Also, conducting interviews with the villagers is a difficult task for me. Secondly, due to the fact that I've never gone to a rural area and communicated with them, I don’t have any idea on how to make this activity more interesting for the villagers. In addition, I’m worried that this activity will be a burden for them.

However, I wish that this activity will give me a meaningful experience over 21 years. As an introverted person, to communicate with new people is not something that is possible for me. In fact, this is an opportunity for me to dare myself to do something beyond my expectations. I will do my best and give my full contribution to my teammates for this program. Before I end my writing, my highest hope for this program is that we can alleviate the burden faced by the villagers and complete what is currently lacking in the Kampung Pagi.

Assalamualaikum and good day everyone. This is my point of view on this particular subject. Hope you enjoy and gain something from my humble perspective. To be brutally honest, at first, I have no idea what Usrah in Action was. The main reason I chose Ulu Tembeling was because it is far from our campus and as someone who loves going here and there it excites me a lot cause I get to perhaps enjoy the nature there not knowing the people who live there might face some problems or challenges. And when the very first online meeting with Prof Jamal and Dr. Hafizah ended, I still couldn’t get a grip on what we were going to do actually, probably because of the communication barrier I guess. Not until I went to meet Prof Jamal together with Raihana and Hafiz at his office. That particular day really opened my eyes. That day makes me realize that people at Kampung Pagi to be exact, have been facing multiple problems, and the main reason why this subject is introduced to us is for us to give back to the community by giving a hand and helping them resolve the issues there. Honestly, I’m actually quite scared for our upcoming community profiling. It is such a fresh experience for me to actually go to rural areas and communicate with the community there. My expectations would be there might be some language barrier problems when we go and interview the community there and worst-case scenario the people there might not like us because maybe they might feel like they are being used, who knows. However, I believed that there’s a great outcome that we will gain from this subject. In fact, working together, and brainstorming ideas to solve an issue in a group is actually the best way to polish the leadership skills and communications skills in each one of us as we have been isolated for almost 2 years ++ due to MCO and the skills day by day are getting faded. So, what I can say is that this subject is trying to help the student to enhance their skills in them and make them better human beings, not only for themselves but also for the community especially those who are in need out there. That is all from me. Thank you for spending your time :D

When I first heard about Ulu Tembeling, I immediately searched on google where it is located. And then it shows that this place is situated near Taman Negara. In my heart, I know this place will be awesome since I love nature. Then I quickly registered my name to this section since I wanted to go there. My first sight of this course was a bit excited because I think this course is about volunteerism, and I would love to do it. For me, Ulu Tembeling is like an inland and the place is surrounded by forest and we need to access it only by a boat. However, my assumption is wrong. after our first online meeting with Prof Jamal and Dr Hafizah, my perception of Ulu Tembeling changed. It turned out that I was too underestimated at this place. It can be accessed using a road, and it is not just like what I imagine. It is my first time hearing about Kampung Pagi. I love that name because I think it is cool and simple. Knowing that the journey to Kampung Pagi is about three to four hours makes me more excited to go there. I hope our trip to Kampung Pagi soon will run smoothly, InshaAllah. For this course, I hope to improve my social skills and the spirit of teamwork. Besides, I hope our visit to Kampung Pagi will give a positive impact on the community there as that is our aim for this course.

On 11th June, Saturday, My Usrah in Action group and i finally can go to the kampung pagi to do our first ever community profiling with the kampung pagi people. We are arrived at 6:30AM after a long journey, and quickly go to the mosque to perform subuh prayer. After done performing solah, Prof Jamal give us a short briefing on how to do the community profiling, and suddenly me and haziq are asked to plot kampung pagi map. This task need us to walk around the kampung pagi to make sure there are 77 houses in the Kampung pagi, but unfortunately we just found 72 houses. When walking, we do some observation to the kampung pagi, based on our expectation before, the Kampung pagi is not lack in hygiene as we thought before, but we still can see the dump in the drain and the river that may cause the problem to the water flow. Besides, I also get to have a chit-chat with the Kampung Pagi people, they told us about Kampung Pagi before the government make the road they have to use the boat to go everywhere but now they can use car, motor ycle and even lorry to go everywhere they want. They also make me shocked when they said that their children need to stay at hostel (that provided by school) in such a young age (primary school) because they said they have to train their children to live far from them because the nearest secondary school is at Kuala Tahan which is quite far from Kampung pagi. In total, we managed to make 20,000 steps today. I feel so exhausted but happy at the same time because this is the first time ever doing this kind of task. Thankyou Prof Jamal because always monitor and give advice to us on what we have to do for this project.

Yesterday’s activitity was tiring yet very fun. We walk from one place to other place to know people in the village. We also enjoy the waterfall and greenery around the village. From yesterday’s community profiling, I learn how to approach a stranger especially an elderly. Honestly, I am very introvert and awkward person. Because of that, I had to choose home that less people so that I can have a conversation more comfortably. The thing that impressed me was the attitude of the villagers who were very cooperative and responded well during the interviews conducted. That made me more comfortable to ask. They also shared their knowledge about history of Kampung Pagi because mostly there are originally from there. I remembered that there was one respondent who told me that he already learnt to do all village chores from the age of 13 until now. He was really tough man and work hard to survive for his family. At the end, village is the first place that give calm to our innersoul and having a conversation with older people always make me feel so small with the knowledge and experience that I had.

Then we prayed Subuh and start with a little briefing from our supervisor, Prof Jamal. Then, we met Ketua Kampung, Tok Hamidi that had shared with us some history and details about the Kampung Pagi. After that, we separated into several groups to start our learning and survey process with the community. Around noon, we took our lunch and continue with some debriefing about what we got from the survey session. Finally, we have a short closing event and at 3 p.m., we get on the bus and reached IIUM Kuantan at 6 p.m.

From this trip of doing the community profiling at Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling, the main thing that make me feel excited is when I was able to learn & experience how to approach & talk to strangers, and the community of Kampung Pagi. I’m also sure that each of us my teammates facing the same difficulty to gain confidence. But at last Alhamdulillah, we managed to survey the community successfully. For our first visit, we are focusing on knowing and learning about the situation and environment of the Kampung Pagi from the community itself. Plus, we try to assume to pick hygiene management as our main topic for our survey.

The community of Kampung Pagi are nice & they treat us very well as if we are their children. They seem so happy to have us as their guests. It was such a great time we spent with all of them. Even the first attempt where we try to knock on someone's door and start the conversation was quite awkward and challenging. Indeed, we managed to ask, talk and share with them some facts and knowledge about the topic of hygiene.

Overall, most the communities do realise the importance of taking care of the environment but still, there are some weaknesses in hygiene management such as their knowledge, attitude, and experience. We are going to discuss in our group and decide on what is the real needs of the community in Kampung Pagi.

That's all from me. Thank you ;)

11th of June, 2022: Our journey to Kg Pagi began at 3:00 a.m., with anticipation and apprehension. This is because we need to ask the questions directly to residents of Kg Pagi. Prof. Jamal was really helpful in guiding us on how to ask the suvery’s questions in an easiest way to the villagers. Due to the relatively lengthy distance and bumpy route, the drive to the Kg Pagi took around 3 hour and a half. We arrived at Kg Pagi around 6:30 a.m. and then we performed the subuh prayer. After that, we were briefed by Prof Jamal on what needs to be done so that a systematic work situation can be created. Then, we met Tuan Hamidi bin Nipah, Tok Empat Kampung Pagi. He explained Kg Pagi's origins and how Kg Pagi got its name. I was assigned to Group B, and my task was to conduct surveys with residents in the school and mosque areas. The majority of those who live in the school area are teachers. Unfortunately, most of the teachers were not at home when we visited Kg Pagi since it was a school holiday. Therefore, we only got four respondents. At first, we were a little hesitant to ask the questions. However, we felt more confident to chat with other locals afterwards, alhamdulillah. When we asked the questions, the four respondents were really friendly, they even told us about the tourist attractions in Kg Pagi and invited us to visit Kg Pagi again. The people of Kg Pagi are so warm and welcoming that they make me feel at ease and feel like home. Based on my observations, Residents of Kg Pagi have issues with rubbish waste management. Garbage bins could not be seen in any area, including in the mosque area. Therefore, practical efforts must be made to solve the problem. Aside from that, I am overjoyed to be able to participate in this activity because it gives me the confidence to converse with people I have never met before. Thank you for this experience ♡

Assalamualaikum. So we all had went to the Kampung Pagi. To be honest, I was kinda disappointed for not having any breakfast before walking around the village to interview the locals, as the driver drove straight to the village and not stopping anywhere. But when we were walking from house to house, I observed the condition of the village. Turns out the problem that we thought the village is having was a hygiene problem, but looking back, it isn’t. I mean the village is not perfectly very clean but it is not dirty or smelly. Some places were clearly been neglected such as the drains, and public toilets at the mosque. The drains were not filled with rubbish but instead, filled with grasses which i pretty sure will not work normally if something were to happen. To be fair, the neighbourhood surrounding area where very clean from rubbish. My target was to find any cigarettes buds as from my knowledge locals from village usually were chain smokers. But to my surprise, I could barely find any. Which shown that people there are taking care about their cleanness. The people there were very nice to use. Some gave us some food and drinks, there’s this one house that let us lent their motorcycles. I felt very welcoming. Though I do had an connection problem with my phone. I got no service at there. So I really focus on just doing my best to get the information I needed. It was very tiring of course. But this is the kind of experience that you can get easily. Though I wish we could have more time so that we can actually do the best that we can to give back to the community.

11th June 2022 at 3 a.m on Saturday we moved to Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling with 17 students and Prof Jamal with his wife. As the journey begin, I started to feel the fear of meeting people since this is the first profiling that i have done in the last two years of the pandemic era. In the same time, i feel excited as it is my first ever to deal with villagers from rural area. We took 3 hours to reach at Kampung Pagi. Along the way, there are some of the roads are not in good condition. We are shaking to the left and right until we arrived at Kampung Pagi. Then, i went to the toilet but the toilet’s condition is not in good shape. The surrounding of the toilet is messy with dead leaves and puddles. To make it worse, only few toilets have the access for the water. After that, we performed our subuh prayer before we briefed by Prof Jamal before we start our profiling. To make it proper, we had a discussion with Penghulu or known as Tok4 in Pahang to know better about Kampung Pagi. We seperated into few groups before we starting our survey. I volunteered to do a mapping for Kampung Pagi as i want to explore Kampung Pagi as a whole. We started at 9.30 a.m. I walked from one end of the village and end at the other side. It took 2 hours and half and around 20 kilometres of walk to complete. As I walk around Kampung Pagi, I observed that Kampung Pagi is a clean village but they does not have proper facility to get rid of their wastes, thus they amass the wastes and causes smell pollution at certain places. The people of Kampung Pagi welcomed us with a warm heart. Most of them will greet us with smile on their face. As I walked for a long time, one of the villagers invited me to their house to have some “keropok lekor”. I touched by their kindness. We talked for a while about history of Kampung Pagi. He said that Kampung Pagi just have a proper road about 6 years ago. After that, my friend and I continuing our search of houses and we end up walking at the area nearby the river. We ended our task at 12.10 p.m and we were having our lunch after that. I really enjoy our first experience of community profiling because we are having a nice people of Kampung Pagi. Moreover, I gain a lot of skills such as how to create a topology map and how to talking with villagers properly.

Finally, on 11th June 2022, we went to Kg. Pagi for community profiling! We began our journey at 3 a.m. where all of us waited for the bus at MAC 1. We arrived there at about 6.30 a.m., which was surprisingly earlier than expected. We performed the Subuh prayer at the masjid located there and after that, we had an opening briefing about this project and some Info about Kg. Pagi by Prof Jamal first and followed by the head of the village, Tok Empat. My first impression upon arriving there was, “wow, this is not what I’d expected!”. Because, in my imagination, it is a lot worse than what I've seen with my own eyes. It’s just that this village is located far far away from the town and other than that, Kg. Pagi is just like a normal village. Ok then, we divided each other into groups of two and assigned which location we should go to. I have chosen to group with Iqlima, along with the one other group including Haleena and Misha. We went to the area located in the middle of Kg. Pagi, where the school is located and only a few houses are there. We have found some people for us to conduct a survey, especially on hygiene where we also found that the village area they live in is a bit less clean as there are no rubbish bins that we see around the houses. However, from the survey, we found out that they received a clean water supply from the nearest hill. One thing that is so precious I got from the experience in Kg. Pagi is that the people there are so lovely and kind. They really treated us very nice and responded to our survey cooperatively. Also, I'm so thankful to Prof Jamal for the help and his support of the idea, as well as financially. I am really looking forward to coming there again and contributing to successfully achieving our objective about this project with my friends <3

The awaited day has arrived. We went to Kampung Pagi early in the morning to see how their life actually is. Also, to challenge myself to communicate with strangers of different ages was the aim before I came. When we arrived, I observed the assembly point at Kampung Pagi. I think our objective to study their hygiene is absolutely right. To be honest, I grew up in an urban area. I do have 2 villages but the village is called ‘Felda’, not in a rural area. However, this is really my first time to be in a rural area, Kampung Pagi which is such a calming place for me. Before we started our community profiling, the head village gave us some briefing, told us about the history of Kampung Pagi. He told us about the water source for this village and also the problems that occur in Kampung Pagi. He mentioned that the villagers here are kind-hearted, sporting and love guests. So all of us have been distributed into 3 groups. However, my friends and I got to the area which does not have many houses compared to other teams. We walked to that area to get at least 2 houses each person, hoping the villagers were at their home. Unfortunately, all of the houses were empty. But we got some villagers who were working at that time, such as security guard, shopkeeper and grasscutter. The best part was they are very friendly and willing to chat even though they are working. During the first interview, I was a bit nervous to talk. First of all, the grasscutter was a young man. Secondly, because he is working, and I’m afraid to take his time. But, he was very kind to answer all of my questions. They actually helped me and my team a lot to complete the survey. I ended my day at Kampung Pagi with a lot of smiles. This project actually opened my eyes to the fact that not everyone is bad. In this small world, everyone has a sacred heart and enjoys benefiting others. In addition, if we found someone who annoyed us, maybe the mistakes could be on us. Even though I don’t get any experience meeting with the villagers at their home, I was very happy to be part of this project.

Alhamdulillah thumma Alhamdulillah, we are done with our community profiling. The journey really amazed me. Let's go back to the time when we arrived at Kg Pagi. On Saturday morning, June 12th, at 6.30 am, I got off the bus and rushed for subuh prayer. After the sun had already gone up and lit the village, I was like "what is this village?" I mean, the view, the vibes are so calm and it's beyond my expectations. Before meeting Tok Empat, the head village of Kg Pagi, we had a brief session with Prof. Jamal. I still remember the advice given by Prof. that morning. He said always think that the person you meet is always better than you, so that you don't have even a little arrogance in you, oh I am better than this uncle or aunty, something like that. Arrogance will ruin your attitude. I hold that advice all the way I do the community profiling, asking the villagers to get to know more about them.

I achieved something within one day in Kg Pagi, in which I succeeded in socializing with people around me. I have to admit, I do stutter when talking to the first person I interviewed, Kak Zuraini. She was so nice even though I repeatedly said "sorry, it's my first time doing this kind of work". She only replied, "That's alright, I know you are still learning." That single moment, I realized, it’s true, I am always learning something new every day. That's life. Learning from the mistakes you make will gain you experience. When it comes to the second person I interviewed, I can feel all the comfort coming out of my speech. My mind at that time was like "wow hazim, easy to chit chat already". I learnt that the first step is always the hardest in whatever you are doing, but to move to another step in your life, you must take that very first step in front of you so that you will start moving from one chapter in life to another.

One of the things that amazed me about the villagers here is that they are really kind to us, treating us like they have already known us for a long time. Kak Mastura family even lent us their motorcycles with just about 10 minutes of chit-chat with them. They are really nice, beyond our capability to do the same action if strangers come to my house, and for sure, I will not lend them motorcycles. I agree with Prof. Jamal's words, "They have pure souls compared to some people who live in the city".

As for my respondents, the hygiene is good because their houses and surroundings are clean, but every house said the same thing about their water source. When there is heavy rain, the water pipe from the hill will break down, and they won't have water for that period of time. Other than that, the probability of a problem is how they manage their waste. They usually just dig a hole and wait for it to fill, then burn it to ashes.

These problems will be discussed to find the real change that Kg Pagi needs. I did enjoy the entire journey. A big thanks to all Kg Pagi villagers for such great cooperation in helping us with this community profiling. Bye.

11th June 2022, at 3 a.m. the journey to Kampung Pagi began. My hands were trembling and my heart was pumping as if I was just finishing a lap running. There is no word that can describe my feeling at that moment. Theoretically, I have gone through tons of websites to get the information about people in Kampung Pagi but realistically I have no on hand experience with them.

The main purpose for all members of section 830 is to do a community profiling which is a type of sociological research that entails constructing a picture of a community's nature, needs, and resources with the active participation of its people, with the goal of developing and implementing an action plan to solve the issues discovered. The issue that we thought to be a problem in Kampung Pagi was poor hygiene since we believe there is no access or public convenience in rural areas. Surprisingly, as we arrived around 6 a.m. the surroundings were tranquil and refreshing. I could barely see the trees as it was covered by the mist. However, when it comes to cleanliness, it was not surprising at all. The toilet at the ‘Surau’ was filthy and unmanaged. Only a few toilets are available while some toilets are clogged and full with mud. Not to mention that their water source is coming from the hill. Some of the villagers complain that sometimes there will be sand or mud in the water especially during heavy rain. The waste management was quite fine but the way may not be friendly to the environment. Thus, I believe there are several ways that can be done to improve the hygiene in Kampung Pagi.

As we are educated to watch and mingle with them, I learned how to live and integrate into the society well. This course activity not only helped me become more socially flexible, but it also introduced me to a variety of abilities that helped me develop my character and become a more balanced and employable graduate in the future. Meeting people in Kampung Pagi had opened my eyes, that there were people with different attitudes, background and perception regarding the environment. These taught me to be more wise in choosing words when talking and initiating a conversation. Thus, I believe this course is really needed and a must for all students to take as it is essential in improving social skills, manners and soft skills.

As time passed, the day that we awaited has arrived. 11th June 2022. The day where we went to Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling. On that night, I had mixed feelings. I do not know how to describe my feelings—excited, anxious, nervous, everything. I could not sleep well that night because of all those feelings. At 2 a.m., I prepared myself for the journey. This journey began at 3 a.m. when we boarded the bus. The road to Kampung Pagi is a bit challenging as it is dark and foggy and takes about three hours. Then, we arrived at Kampung Pagi around 6.30 a.m. Arrived there, we went to the Mosque to perform Subuh Prayer and continue with some briefing from Prof Jamal regarding our project in Kampung Pagi. A lot of guidelines and tips were delivered by Prof to us as this was the first-time experience for most of us. Then, we started our day by dividing tasks among ourselves, and we went to meet the leader of the Kampung Pagi or also known as Tok Empat. He told us about the background of the village and the history of Kampung Pagi's name. I feel excited when I hear the story of Tok Empat and Prof Jamal about their experience. I love listening to that story, which makes me wonder and open my mind to the world. Then, we moved according to our planned plan and began our survey to interview the villagers. The scenery around the village made me feel calm as the road was not busy and loud. After that, we went to the random house we wanted to interview. The first house me and my partner went is a house of a lady and her two daughters. At first, it gave me an adrenaline rush, and I started to sweat heavily. Many scenarios I created in my head as this was my first time approaching and interviewing strangers. However, I tried to calm myself and tried my best to finish the interview. My partner and I helped each other during the interview, which helped us a little bit. Then, we move to the next house. At this house, my nervous energy decreased as the experience of interviewing the villagers was not too difficult as I had imagined. Then, we walk to another house and so on. Along the way from house to house, I had a chance to take some pictures of the scenery, and the results were amazing! After interviewing a few villagers, we decided to stop and take a rest. At that time, it made me stop for a while and think about the problem faced by the villagers. I tell myself that I need to be grateful as my hometown is not too far from the town and easy to access everything, while the villagers of Kampung Pagi took about three hours to go to the city of Kuantan. Then, we proceed with our journey by having lunch and listening to a briefing from Prof Jamal. Honestly, I said that Prof Jamal had opened my mind with some of his experiences. Then we end our journey in Kampung Pagi with the closing ceremony and some photography sessions at the Mosque. However, this is not our last time at Kampung Pagi because in Usrah In Action 2 (UIA 2), we will go there again for the intervention based on the survey that we had done. So far, the experience in Kampung Pagi is an invaluable experience which we cannot get in class. Through this project, I can also improve my social skills by interacting with strangers and opening my mind to the world's reality. I hope in UIA 2, we can solve the problem faced by the villagers by doing some interventions, and a little bit will improve their community.

Assalamualaikum and here we are in Kampung Pagi to complete our first community profiling. At first, it's kinda tiring to wake up early and get ready at 1 am to depart to Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling at 3 am. Additionally that we don't get any chance to have breakfast or buy some snacks for our meals before doing our community profiling is a bit frustrated for me but I think maybe there are problems that cannot be avoided that make the bus driver make this decision. We arrived at Kampung Pagi around 6.30 am and one of my friends cannot get his ‘business’ done due to the condition of the toilet provided there. From this, I got my first impression of Kampung Pagi's hygiene condition, but as long as I do not go through it thoroughly I cannot give anything comment about this problem. After we have done our sightseeing and meeting with Prof Jamal about our plan in doing this community profiling, we went from one house to another to complete our survey and guess what, I do not have any problem communicating with the people there. Once I thought I must be some kind of awkward to have a conversation with them, but It is not a problem when you can already set what you want to achieve in this community profiling. Furthermore, the people at Kampung Pagi are so kind that they treat us like their children, give us foods and drinks and also give us permission to borrow their vehicles to ease our community profiling. Besides, every house that we went to is also in a good condition where they are aware of their environmental hygiene such as there is no garbage spilling at their compound or bushes that grow surrounding there. Overall, there is no problem at the place that we went, but there might be problems at other sites in Kampung Pagi. Lastly, although it is kind of exhausting to do this but I think I enjoy doing this because I can see people from other perspectives and commune with them. And not to forget that even though I cannot get to reach Bukit Awan to see the beautiful scenery there, but I got to see a beautiful sky there with fluffy clouds hanging up there.

Assalamualaikum wbt. Here I am writing about Ulu Tembeling again but this time I’ve set my foot there to do the community profiling! Alhamdulillah the experience of being at Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling is really amazing. All of us departed from IIUM Kuantan at around 3.00 am and the journey took around three to four hours. We arrived at 6:30 am and rush for Subuh prayers. The first thing that I noticed about the village is that it is so calm with vibes. After done the prayers, all of us have made some brief discussions with Prof Jamal before meeting Tok Empat or I would say the head village of Kampung Pagi.

Tok Empat is so nice and he taught us many things. From the history of Kampung Pagi to the main concern that always happened there to help us do the community profiling. He always reminds us to not be afraid of the villagers as all of them are very nice and kind. I might say that he is true! As I have said before that I was really nervous to meet all of them since I could not talk that much with strangers, simply said introvert. However, all the villagers really help us to do the survey. They also served us food and cold drinks as the day is scorching hot!

Me and my partner, Diyana went through three houses and the first house really caught my attention. It is a house lived by parents with five children. To be honest I would say that the house is kind of small to fit all of them. However, I still remember the last question that we asked her if there is any issue in this house or even Kampung Pagi and all her answers were “Alhamdulillah, everything is enough for us”. Since then, I believe that we need to always be grateful for everything that we had because even the small things could cause happiness for every individual.

Regarding the issue at Kampung Pagi, I have to say that the cleanliness is not in my satisfactory. During the community survey, Diyana and I went through houses in different are which are the ones located in the lower areas and the ones in the hilly or higher areas. The houses in higher areas always have issues with water supply for like almost a week as it is always being cut off due to broken pipes. However, there is no issue regarding water in lower areas. I hope that all of us could discuss together to plan an action and make changes to Kampung Pagi so that the cleanliness will be improved. I am really looking forward to meet the villagers again and giving our best to the community. That’s all from me, thank you!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

First of all, I need to apologize as my reflection on the trip to Kg Pagi may consist of many complaints and frustration, but here it goes.

My group managed to interview only four people, two of them are man and the another two are woman. I must say I personally didn’t do well interviewing them, it was awkward, but they were so nice to actually just share with us about themselves. However, it wasn’t all happy moment there. Although all of them were not interviewed at their house, rather at a small shop or guard post and in the school compound, I can see that as we walked from house to house, the sanitation was not as good, in fact I was quite surprise to see the few houses condition that we got to stop by. Most of them were not conducive at all, one of them I saw having sink installed (if I may put it this way) just outside the window while the water used to wash the dishes flow out through the pipe under it straight onto the ground with no sewage trough, another house honestly looked like an abandoned hut with all the fisherman’s equipment left unsorted in front of the house and there were also houses with dumped garbage behind the house. I am not being judgemental or trying to say bad things about them, but just to share my observation on what I saw and I hope they won’t have to live in that condition anymore. When I saw the sink, I was like “where is their drainage system?”, “how about their toilet then?” – seriously, the water was stagnant under their house, and it could lead to another problem, dengue- they have children in the house (shouldn’t they at least think of those kids?). Now I might sound frustrated and acting like a clean freak (although am not), but really, this was not expected. The dumped garbage, yes from our interviews, we get to know that mostly people in that area would manage the garbage by their own, either burning or burrowing them. Then, more to say, wouldn’t they at least should have lived with a more systematic or tidier practices in managing the rubbish instead of leaving them scattered.

As the complaints go, I personally couldn’t think of any ways to overcome this problem yet. From what I saw, it is their behaviour towards cleanliness that should be straight out. But of course, I am not making a conclusion for all the people in Kg Pagi, because there were also a few houses that was actually far better than those that I mentioned, but I just happened to see more poorly house condition in the area that was set for our group to survey. Aaa I am really not good with words and I might have been harsh with my words, but really, I just wished to share what I felt when I saw those things, not degrading people or anywhere near it.

Assalamualaikum Prof. Alhamdulilah and finally on 11th June, we all together managed went to Kg Pagi Ulu Tembeling for comiteee profiling. It was an exhaustingly long bus ride but I have always enjoyed watching all-round views from some altitudes. When we arrived on the early in the morning which earlier than we expected, I saw the Village life is full of simplicity and peace. Villages are blessed with greenery and purity of air. When we went to the surau in Kg pagi, I saw what we expected which the surau's hygiene was quite poor. Then, after we finished our Suboh prayer, we had a meeting with Prof Jamal. One of the things he said that stuck over my head was "always think good about others and don't be arrogant."

After meeting with Tok4 and hearing a brief history of the Kg Pagi, we were divided into three groups. I was assigned in Group C, along with the brothers' team which we require to survey the area that located a bit far from others . Masyallah, my teammates were extremely boisterous and friendly. Based on what I saw, they seemed to communicate effectively with the orang kampung. And, Alhamdulilah, the orang kampung was incredibly pleasant and friendly . When we visited to their house, they served us a variety of foods and treated us well. We were greeted warmly. They were very cooperative as long as the survey was conducted. From that I can learned that , people in the villages live together with love and harmony. They are hard-working and believe in simple life instead of a luxurious one. Also, when we conduct a hygiene survey, I believe that poor hygiene is not a major issue. Their living quarters appear to be clean, though not in perfect condition. We also discovered that they had a reliable and safe water supply. It is not difficult for them to obtain water for daily routine except during heavy rains when the pipe on the hill breaks down.

Lastly, for me that was the best experience I ever had because I able to interact well with others and I enjoyed learned the new things. Thanks to Prof Jamal for all his assistance and knowledge. As well as to my usrahmates, thankyou for your tireless efforts and you've all done fantastic work! Thankyouu

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim and Assalamualaikum everyone. Our journey to Kg Pagi began at 3 a.m. Alhamdullilah all went smoothly except that we didn’t get to breakfast before heading there haha. It was such a long zigzag road with no lights before reaching there. We arrived at Kg Pagi earlier than expected which is at 6.30 am. Kudos to Haziq a.k.a our President as he managed to quickly re-arrange our schedule. After the Subuh prayer was performed, a short and impactful briefing was done by Prof Jamal. One of the best pieces of advice that we got from Prof Jamal is that never feel that we are more glorious than anyone, and we must know that a person that we are going to meet is someone better than us.

As the sun rises, we got to feel the calm breeze and vibes from Kg Pagi. A short briefing with Tok Empat, the Head Village was done before we went on our way. We divided ourselves into 3 groups to cover all areas in Kg Pagi so that no one will be neglected. All voice matters they say. We went house by house in pairs and my partner for that day was Raihana. The adrenaline rush of the moment we reached the first house was indescribable. The fast beating of my heart and the cold sweat started to form on my palm. Luckily Prof Jamal and his wife accompany us to the first house. Allah knows how grateful we were when the owner of the house was so lovely and welcoming. It was such a tense 5 minutes chit-chat at first and it gets better as we comfortably continue our conversations. The next house that we went to also welcomed us warmly which ease our uneasiness. One of our respondents, known as Kak Julia gave me and Raihana 2 bottles of flavored drinks for free! That pretty much shows how kind and warm people are in Kg Pagi.

After a long day, what can we conclude is that hygiene was not the major problem there. As for my respondents, they know how to manage their waste well despite having no public rubbish bin there. Perhaps the best we can do to improve their waste management is to suggest a more sustainable way of disposing of the waste. Despite that, I learned a lot that day. Their life there teaches me to be grateful for what I have instead of having the feeling of not enough. To boot, I believe that my communication and social skills are well polished that day. Even though we were there for only half of the day, we learned a lot from the people there. And it was such an expensive experience that you can't get it freely. That’s all from me. Thank you everyone and Prof and IIUM for bringing this golden opportunity to us.

Assalamualaikum w.b.t. 11 December 2022 was the intervention day for Usrah In Action 2. We planned to board to Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling at 2 a.m. but had been delayed until almost 3 a.m. I was half-heartedly to go there since I have assignments and mid semester examinations on Monday. But due to the tasks and responsibilities to perform this intervention, I convinced myself that this will be a new experience to me and also it will allow me to learn on how to deal and interact with the villagers. My task on that day was handling one of the check-points for the children section which is the ‘Recycle Bingo’. I spent almost 4 hours creating and randomizing the bingo for 25 sets as it was divided into two with my partner, which in total is 50 sets. Although it took some time, I do believe this task will deliver new knowledge to the children especially in identifying materials that can be reduced, reused and recycled. As soon as we arrived at the Kampung Pagi, my perspective had differ from before, I started to get along with the villagers. I was so excited and determine to deliver my knowledge through the activity at my station. After the first activity which was aerobic, I immediately went to my station and waited for the usher to bring the children. Around 20 kindergarten and middle school children participated in the activities. I was in charge of dividing the children into three groups according to their age and suitable activity that they will take part in. 6 children were at my station. Here I learned how well they know about taking care of the environment. They also allow me to build my confidence by leading the session successfully. By the end of the session, all children are required to give their opinion on the activity. Overall, their impressions were about getting new knowledge and small deeds able to guide others to do the same deeds such as picking up rubbish. All in all, I hope the information and intervention are well delivered by doing this activity. May this knowledge help them in taking care of their health and environment. In my opinion, although this activity seems simple, I believe it will have a huge impact on the children at the Kampung Pagi. I also learnt that sincerity and responsibilities are interrelated. Both of the elements are required in performing certain tasks. Thus, I enjoy this Intervention Day at Kampung Pagi and all of my action of that day were all sincere and I had gave my best for this intervention.

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

Assalamualaikum wbt.

First and foremost, I'd like to state that I was unable to attend the intervention day on December 11th (Sunday) because I am infected with COVID-19. To begin this journal, I want to share that I was so excited to join the intervention day in the first place, as I volunteered to go to Kg. Pagi a day earlier to help with the preparations. Unfortunately, on Saturday morning, as I was packing to leave for Kg. Pagi, one of my friends came into my room and informed me that she has COVID-19. I stopped putting clothes in my bag and went straight to get tested because I'm afraid that I might spread the virus around to everyone if I didn't bother to do a self-check, and sadly, I saw a double line on my test kit. I seriously thought that I was packing my things to go to Kg. Pagi, but I never knew that I was actually packing my things to go to quarantine in Mahallah F1. I can't share much, but worry not, I always check in with my friend Iqlima for updates on the intervention day's activities. I was told that the activities, particularly the explorace conducted by the COMMED and UIA students, were well enjoyed by the orang kampung. My friend said that the orang kampung were "sporting betul!" and gave their full cooperation during the explorace activity. I was so happy to hear that, as I should be one of the person in charge of the checkpoint. I really wish I could witness that with my own eyes. However, I've heard that the orang kampung were only interested in games and explorace on that day, but when it came to hearing about health and the "kitar semula" talk, most of them just opted to sit in the back of the school hall and do their own thing. I assumed that they might already be tired of the activity they joined earlier. I sincerely hope that the orang kampung have a good time and feel contented during the intervention day, as well as that they can gain some useful knowledge to apply in their daily lives to ensure that their health and the cleanliness of their surroundings are always in good shape.

We arrived at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Pagi at 8AM and the event start at 9AM. I take the responsibility as a publication and promotion bureau so i am responsible to take the video and photo off all the activity there. I witnessed all the activities and i really impressed by the Kampung Pagi people’s spirit joining the games. They are very supportive and sporting make me feel very happy even i was exhausted at that time. I think that this intervention is a success because we are able to give the new knowledges to the kampung Pagi people.

11/12/22, Sunday- At 3 a.m., we left for Kampung Pagi with COMMED KOM students. The trip took longer than it should have because it rained so heavily that morning. When we arrived at Kampung Pagi, I was nervous but excited to participate in activities with the villagers. I worked in the module unit and was in charge of supervising the collage activity that used recycled materials. Alhamdulillah, there were a lot of kids there, including some from Kuala Tahan. This demonstrates that the villagers are very excited to participate in our activities.

After being divided into colouring and bingo activities, the children who did the collage activity numbered only 6. Only one of the six individuals—a student in years 2 and 3—has ever created a collage; the other five are young children, ages 4-6, and have never done so. Children who have never created a collage were first bored. But over time, the children become happier when we assist them in the collage making. When I asked them if they had enjoyed making the collage, they replied that they had enjoyed creating it with the sisters and brothers. Since some of them didn't appear happy at first, I was glad to hear that.

Besides, I was really happy to see the joy of the locals. I was quite shocked when I saw that each group had its own theme shirt. The people must have a very deep bond because, in my opinion, doing this in other villages, including my own, is challenging and almost impossible. They are so enthusiastic to receive the information and knowledge shared by UIA. Hence, I believe that we have succeeded in achieving the goals of our community activities.

Despite the fact that I knew I had to start my community service, I loathed the thought. It did not even matter to me where I worked. I simply wanted to finish it. It was not what I expected, which surprised me. The experience of performing community service was highly rewarding and not at all painful.

During the event occur, I have some fun during that time. I see the locals there, where having a blast during the event, especially during the sukaneka. Just like the locals, I learned a lot from the COMMED students. they though locals there about making compose as a fertiliser. That was quite interesting. Overall, I felt like I was doing something really productive on the weekend that can benefits other people and feel good about myself.

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

Assalamualaikum w.b.t. On 11th December 2022 was the day where not only we from the section Usrah in Action but also students from the Community Medicine went to intervention day which was planned at Kampung Pagi. I think it has been a few months since last I have been here and I also noticed a few faces that I have met before. My classmates and I were very excited to join Intervention Day since we have prepared a lot of activities and games for them.

For the intervention, I was assigned to be in charge of handling the booth section. At first, I was quite confused about this activity because I am not sure what can I give or contribute to the communities. My teammates and I decided to give a simple lecture about 3Rs to the communities while at the same time doing some fun games. Surprisingly, all of the communities seem to be very enjoyable with the activity and on top of that, I was very relieved that they are willing to listen to the knowledge that we are going to deliver.

From the booth activity, I believe that every person in this world has willing to learn even just a tiny bit. As an example, the villagers of Kampung Pagi were willing to listen when we were trying to deliver the knowledge about 3Rs even though it might be simple for them. It would seem that they just need someone to assist or remind them in taking care of their surroundings and environment.

Other than that, from my perspective, I believe that communication between people is very important as it will help us build relationships by allowing us to share our experiences and needs, and helps us connect to others. By having great communication with the communities, we are able to know their problems, concerns and the solutions that they need for their home.

I sincerely really hope that the community of Kampung Pagi could obtain something from Intervention Day and have an improvement in taking care of their health, cleanliness and environment. I hope that everything that they gain from the day, could be applied in their daily life. Not forgetting us as a student and Khalifah in this Dunya as well, it is very hopeful that I could improve my ability in community engagement in the future and I will try to give my best and sincerity in doing every task and intervention so that I can contribute more on the society.

Assalamualaikum WBT. Alhamdulilah, despite all the ups and downs, we managed to conduct an intervention program called as Komuniti Sejahtera in the Kampung Pagi. Here, I'd like to express my gratitude to Prof Jamal and the COMMEND students for assisting and guiding us in carrying out this programme successfully. We intend to carry out this programme after conducting a survey and observing the poor waste management problems in Kg Pagi. Obviously, this problem may contribute to climate change and air pollution, and it directly affects many ecosystems.

To be honest, I was surprised because the residents of Kg Pagi were enthusiastic about participating in this programme and eager to learn simple lessons such as the 3R principle, the importance of waste management, and many others. Regardless of the age, the residents demonstrate a strong desire to participate in all activities such explorace , talk session and also the games.

In my point of view, this intervention program provides numerous benefits to me because it allows me to practise and develop my social skills, as I am required to interact and engage with the residents. Not only that, it is believed that this program also can increase the awareness among the residents regarding the importance of the proper waste management as raising awareness is great point to start the great efforts .

Finally, it is hoped that as a result of this effective approach, all residents will accept the responsibility and duty to practise proper waste management in their daily lives and raise awareness about the issue. They will understand that proper waste management can reduce pollution in the environment while also ensuring the safety and well-being of humans and all other living beings.

Thank you and Wasalam.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

First and foremost, my deepest gratitude to Prof Jamal for giving us (UIA students) the chance to join hands together with the COMMED students in conducting the intervention day at Kampung Pagi. I believe our intervention day wouldn't be as great and successful with just the 18 people of UIA students only.

Alhamdulillah, regardless of all challenges (busy schedule, limited time, and transportation problems) we succeeded in conducting the intervention day in kampung Pagi. We departed on the 11th of December, 3.30 am and due to the delay of the bus, we arrived there a little bit late than the estimated time. It was drizzling the moment we arrived there (great weather to sleep I'd say hehe).

Honestly, upon arriving I was quite surprised to see there was already a crowd of Kg Pagi people gathered at the SK Kampung Pagi looking all excited to join the program despite the sweater weather. I was part of the booth team and we prepared three simple posters regarding 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle), the benefits of practicing 3R, and how to practice 3R. We also prepared a mini quiz and reward each team that can answer the quiz correctly with candies. I was really contented to see the people of Kg Pagi try their best to answer the question and engage with us. Throughout the day at the booth, what I can conclude is that the people of Kg Pagi are willing and eager to learn new lessons and knowledge, it is just that they need someone to guide them through it.

Overall, I would say the messages of the program were not really being conveyed to the people there as a one-off program isn't enough to fully change the behavior of a person. For instance, as we were explaining the harm of not properly disposing of the waste, there was still rubbish (the candy wrapper) being thrown in front of our booth. However, I personally think that this type of program is a great stepping stone for us in educating the Kg Pagi people about hygiene and ways to properly dispose the waste. Perhaps, we need to think of a more practical way in delivering the messages to them so they can implement what they have learned from us in their daily life and slowly change their attitudes and behavior toward achieving and being a Sejahtera community.

Peace be upon you who are reading this reflective journal for our trip to Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling on 11th December to organize the Intervention Day for our Usrah in Action 2 IIUM Kuantan. First of all I dont even know what I felt during waiting for the bus with other usrah members. I thought the week where the Intervention Day was held was very a hectic week where I got a lot of presentations, assignments submission and programs to be attend and I felt so exhausted with the academic schedule. I dont felt excited with the program tomorrow because at that time I just want to get an enough rest before starting the new week. But it totally change my mood when I got to see a very supportive people of Kampung Pagi that already waiting for us, the committees to start our program. My jobscope as a pubpro committee brought me an enjoyment where I got to take the pictures and videos of the villagers that excited in participating the program. Faces full of smiles and the bonding between the people of Kampung Pagi made me realized that I should be grateful that I can get this opportunity once in a lifetime to engage with this community and help to spread our objectives of the program at Kampung Pagi. It is such an honor where I can capture this moments together with my usrah members and also with the help of the committees from the Kulliyyah of Medicine. A big applause and appreciation I bid to myself and all of the committees that have succeed in organizing the Intervention Day, as well as Prof. Jamal that have been assist us from the beginning till the last.

Assalamualaikum wbt, on December 11, 2022, UIA and COMMEND students held an intervention day with the villagers of Kampung Pagi. Each student has chosen their own task and I chose to carry out the health screening task with the COMMEND students. On the day of the intervention, I learned how to conduct the health screening process with the help of COMMEND students. They were very helpful and supportive in carrying out this task as it was not in my field. The villagers were also very friendly and helped a lot in easing our tasks. Unfortunately, I was unable to watch and participate in other activities such as exploration, booth sessions and sports activities because all activities were conducted synchonizely due to time constraints. But I am still grateful that all activities can run smoothly and orderly as a result of the efforts and cooperation of all the committees and the villagers. The most important thing and what I really like throughout doing UIA 1 and UIA 2 is that I was able to learn how to conduct activities with the community, conduct interview sessions, collect data and analyze data. I can compare the way of UIA task conducted for the ulu tembeling group and the other groups were very different. I can conclude that the entire process and method carried out by the ulu tembeling group with the guidance of Prof Jamal was very organized and thorough. I am very grateful to have guidance from people who are very experienced in carrying out activities with the community. It was very mind-opening and helped me in applying it in other subject assignments. My hope after carrying out this intervention day is that all the activities and knowledge taught can give awareness and change the behavior of the villagers, including university students about the obligation to take care of this nature because it is a trust given to us by God. Thank you usrah in action <3.

Assalamualaikum. Before I start my writing, let me introduce myself. My name is Nuramisha Diana Bt Tamson 2019196, and I am part of a module committee which handles kids activity (collage). So I will write about my experience during intervention day and of course including the collage activity. We gathered at MAC 1, at 2AM and the bus arrived at 3AM. At that time, it rained along the trip to Kampung Pagi. I was worried if our programme will run smoothly as we planned, because rain will cause a lot of disturbance. However, as we arrived at Kampung Pagi, the rain had stopped. So our team just proceeded with the programme. My first impression at that time was happy because when we arrived, I could see there were some villagers waiting for us. So I felt like they were so excited to be a part of our programme.. Our program started with zumba. At first, the villagers were reluctant to join, but after that they enjoyed the zumba! The villagers were so sporting and gave their cooperation to make our programme run smoothly. When the kids' activity (collage) began, I asked them if they knew what recycle items were. However, the majority of them were unaware of the recycle items. So my friend and I explained to them before we started the collage, because we also used recycled materials. The kids at first were so excited to do the collage. and it is our responsibility to refocus their attention so that they can finish the collage. I admit that the picture we chose was difficult to complete and took a long time. That was the collage activity's shortcoming, which can be improved for the next intervention programme. However, the majority of them completed the collage. It is because, from my perception they have high spirit to complete the collage despite the fact that the picture was not on their level. That was amazing. Overall, I can say that the objectives are achievable, particularly the goal of educating the villagers, and also the children already know and understand which items can be recycled. That’s all from me. Thank you.

Action towards health is based on perception. Or the practice is affected by knowledge and attitude.

If we want the community to change, they must have correct perceptions.

Therefore we need to provide them with the correct information (knowledge) so that their attitude will change to positive action (practice).

In our community project in Kg Pagi, the main issue identified is waste disposal practice. We started the project assuming their practice was poor. Therefore the first thing we did was to confirm this assumption.

Next is to discover factors that contribute to the practice. Using the KAP approach, we evaluated their knowledge and attitude using a scale developed by someone else before.

Once relevant factors are identified, intervention can be planned accordingly.

By right, there should be a monitoring and evaluation phase post-intervention. The next group shall continue that.

It is not easy to change behaviour, especially when the bad habit has become habitual. Something that HBM cannot explain.

Journal Intervention Day

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim... I would like to share some of the story and lesson learnt from my intervention in Kampung Pagi, Ulu Tembeling. During the preparation process, we as a semester students are having some difficulties to give our full commitment to the community medicine students in participating each meeting session. However, we manage to keep back in track in a week before the date of the intervention day which on 11th December 2022. I am grateful that my Usrah in Action group with the community medicine students well blend and having a great time together in managing the pre-intervention phase.

During intervention day, i have a hard feelings before depart to Kampung Pagi since i have to submit a few assignments in the week after the intervention. We departed from IIUM Kuantan at 2 am. Along the journey to Kampung Pagi i slept and cannot enjoying the scenery like i had before since i have been to tired from the preparation. Then, we stopped at Jerantut to perform our Subuh prayer. After that, we continued our journey to Kampung Pagi for another hour. We arrived at 8.00 am and it is a bit late than our original plan. Hence, we cannot have a proper breakfast meal together since we have to set the venue for the event. We started the intervention at 8.30 am with aerobics. I felt joyous to see the villagers of Kampung Pagi having fun even when it is early in the morning.

Then, we have explore race session. In this session, we have a few checkpoints that have its respective objectives that mainly aim to share and educate the people of Kampung Pagi the proper way to manage their wastes. I have assigned to watch and coordinate the booth which in checkpoint 5. This booth divided into two which cater 2 different things. The first one is about the importance of protecting the environment and the second one is about how to reducing the usage of plastic and part of that we include activities to make the sharing more fun. I think it is a great method to share with the people in the fun and interactive way.

Overall, i felt so happy and glad that this intervention become a success since we have a short time to manage and prepare for it. Thanks to Prof Jamal, Community Medicine students and people of Kampung Pagi that help and make the intervention happened. I am so grateful that with collaboration with Community Medicine students, our intervention becomes merrier and smooth. This Usrah in Action actually gives me the strength and eager to contribute more with the community and society in helping them to develop into a better future. By that, this is the end of my journal. Thank you.

Assalamualaikum and Hi to everyone who is excited to read my journey throughout UIA2 and intervention day. I will try to make it short and easy to understand. Throughout this event I really learn a lot from it. It is about the different environment and vibes. Rural areas are way different from cities. The bonding between them is wow Masyaallah, can you imagine that different family bonding like they are sharing the same bloodline. By watching them bonding like that in the explorace and sukaneka, make me ponder how I can change myself to bonding easily with people in the city.

In terms of objectives for this event, I sincerely believe we did achieved the objectives because in the explorace I observed certain people really eager to know regards to compost. Asked again and again on how to create an enzymes solution. Not to denied that we cannot change the community in a day because not everyone can accept changes in their life especially regards to 3R, even people in city still dont take serious action regarding waste management. However, I think we succeed in relay the knowledge regarding waste management including to the childrens.

Apart from that, I learned that it is important to always be enthusiastic in everything we are doing. All the participants there gave 100% in every game held. Actually, I really love this kind of program that needs me to interact with community, people that i do not know personally because here I train myself to be brave to confront people. Back then i often being scared of people and when there is a chance like this. I fully utilize it to socialize with people there.

Here, I would like to thank Prof Jamal for allowing the collaboration between medicine students and Allied health sciences students. Honestly, I learnt a lot from them on how to be fast in every task given and be professional despite a tight academic schedule. Thank you all for giving me this opportunity to participate in this event. I am really happy to work with you guys. Indeed, we have a dynamic group work. Lastly, thank you to the people of Kampung Pagi and I hope that we bring you something that can change the community.

Intervention Reflection | Reflection of myself from a community project. (Muhammad Faris Bin Abd Ghani 2112879)

Community projects have always been things that I look up to and get involved in. Alhamdulillah on 11 December 2022 was the third time I went to Kampung Pagi. During the first trip we had done community profiling, doing situational analysis at Kampung Pagi and came out with a research topic entitled Knowledge, Attitude and Practice on Household Waste Disposal among the Community in Kampung Pagi. The second one is to collect data, walk from door to door, asking questions from the villagers. And this time, we had an intervention from the research results we have been working on and done health promotion at Kampung Pagi.

I want to share what are the things that reflect me the most. First and foremost, this program reflects my communication skills. I experienced to dealt with Tok4, create networking with NGO I-Medik, mingle with orang kampung during our visits, fought with fears to start communicate with orang kampung and ask correct questions from our questionnaire, delegated task among my colleagues and handled a situational issues calmly. It is difficult and challenging whenever there is miscommunication, changes of plan at the very end of time, many thoughts and opinions. But being sincere and straightforward, lowering expectations in discussion is the key to overcoming this matter.

Second, the generosity of orang kampung really captured my heart. They are too kind, providing us with food and helping us fulfill our needs without any return. They keep entertaining us every time we come to Kampung Pagi. Very different characters compared to people in the cities. Being not materialistic, not asking for any return, very friendly, very welcoming visitors to the kampung. The cooperation and anticipation of the villagers very amazed me. They gave 100% attention, very creative in rekacipta thing from used items, they active in all activities in the explorace. But the things that we disappointed was the time was to constraint, we not able finished our program as planned with the villagers. We will try to expect the unexpected and having a back up plan if there is anything unwanted happen.

Third,we had an opportunity to give our community service to the community and I admit it is a must for us to have this kind of program. The villagers need us to show and guide them how to improve themselves. We brought a piece of knowledge that hopefully will change the attitude and practice in the community as a whole. Intervention and health promotion about household waste management is a good example on how we are able to serve the community.

To put in the nutshell, I’m so grateful and i would like to express my gratitude especially to Prof Jamal, our supervisor that had shown us the gist of this community program, prepared us along the way with tools to engage with people with a sense of humanity, empowered us with Prof’s knowledge and experiences. Appreciation to the COMMED department and management that have always eased all the process throughout this program. Also to all my COMMED and UIA colleagues, thank you for all of your hard work, cooperation, being in a team, and handling the program very well. May Allah grant you all His paradise, may the essence of this program be a part of our akhlak and vision towards community.

Bismillah, Assalamualaikum. Firstly I'm very excited to come again to Kampung Pagi for the intervention day. I'm very much looking toward to meeting the villager because they were very nice to us. On 11/12/2022, we headed to Kampung Pagi at 3.00 am and arrived late than expected. I used to be a member of the module unit for the explorace activities. However, the program manager suddenly asked me to handle "Senam Robik" in the morning exactly 10 minutes before the event started. I was shocked yet so excited and Alhamdulillah I managed to handle those activities with flying colors.
When the explorace started, I and Razin (COMMED KOM) and were appointed to handle the compost fertilizer checkpoint. We were presenting the idea smoothly about how to make the compost fertilizer just from home.
At the end of the program, we had the closing ceremony and photography session with all villagers. We headed back to UIA and arrived in maghrib. Overall, I'm very lucky to be in this section and meet wonderful people. I'm looking toward to meeting them again in the future.

Reflective journal UIA 2| Iqlima Binti Mohamad (2012092)

Assalamualaikum wbt.
The journey to Kg. Pagi this time felt so long compared to the last time due to rainy weather. Despite the dismal mood, the moment we arrived, the villagers that were seen loitering around the school in the early morning, it struck me how I should be more spirited and remind myself of the purpose of this intervention. It wasn't just to fill the credit hours, but also to give something for the villagers, with the hope to improve not only them, but also myself indirectly. Being in charge of the explorace for the checkpoint crossword, I can see that the villagers were like most of us, would be excited about things that are related to games and entertainment. With the incorporation of games in sharing the related information, it would attract people to at least listen and allow them to have a better memory on it(hopefully) because it made us think, interact and create a meaningful time. So I would like to suggest for the next batch UIA or COMMED student to make a more interactive program if there is any information to be shared because I noticed that when it was the time for educational talk, the villagers seemed not interested. But I would say this was mainly due to them being exhausted after a full morning of activity and games.
