Culture: I assumed people were being avoidant or not connecting with a message, but then learned it was a cultural norm that women talked to women and men talked to men. I started talking more directly to the women after that.

Ageism: Assumption that an older social worker was lagging in their work because they didn't submit data a certain way, when they had perfectly detailed hand-written notes in organized files.

Confirmation bias: A handful of people encouraged me to do more videos on social media to share wisdom and advice... but that's just a handful of people. How much to I make that a priority based on input from a few good friends?

Racism: Where I grew up, people always referred to Hispanic people as "Mexicans"... I grew up saying the same until I was corrected by a classmate who called me out on this. She let me know she was Costa Rican and preferred "Hispanic" as a term to use for people who don't know specific nationalities. I've used that term and tried to be more aware ever since.
