PEE 10:

Why is it important for Enaiat to talk clear English to the guy in the bus in Italy?

‘I said, Please Rome, please Rome, he would reply, No rum, because I pronounced Rome as rum. After a while, after all this asking Please Rome, please Rome, the fat man started shouting angrily. No rum. No. Enough. He was really furious. ‘

Enaiat is almost at the end of his journey, he almost reaches his destination. He had never been in Venice, and didn’t knew anyone or anything. He wants to go to Rome, but to get there, he need help of others. Because he doesn’t know how to get there. In this situation it is important for him to communicate well and clear with people. For example in the bus with the man. He tried to make clear that he wanted to go to Rome, but the man understood rum.

PEE 4

Working in Quetta was hard for Enaiat.

‘ I can’t not mention that my first day working at the samavat Qgazi in Quetta was hell. Firstly, they immediately gave me lots of things to do. Secondly, when they asked me to do those things they didn’t explain how to do them, as if I already knew everything, when in fact I didn’t know anything, especially not how to do the kind of things they asked me to do. Thirdly, I didn’t know anyone. Fourthly, I couldn’t chat or joke people I didn’t know because I was afraid that the jokes would be misunderstood since I spoke their language very badly. ‘

He got a lot of things to do, and the things that made it worse, are that they didn’t tell how he need to do his job.

Also he did not know anyone in the factory, he had no friends.

That is also why he can’t make jokes or chat with people, because he is afraid that they don’t like him.

Also it felt for him as there would not be a end. It felt like he was working for weeks, which make it harder two. To be focussed and give enough energy for weeks is hard, especially when you are between the 10-14 year

PEE 5

Enaiat needed to stay in the fabric in Quetta for longer.

‘ I’m leaving Kaka Rahim.

For where?

I shrugged my shoulders. I don’t know, I said. I’m not familiar with the city. To be honest , I don’t even know what difference it would make if I turned right or left when I got out of the door. So I’ll just go to the end of the street, Kaka Rahim, look both ways and choose the best view. ‘

He doesn’t know the way, people, and how to earn money in Quetta, so this work is crucial for him. Till he finds a new job to earn money.

Because he don't know Quetta and he is young, it is difficult for him to find a new well paid job.

It is difficult for him too because he is an immigrant and he is illegal, that is also a reason it is difficult to search for a new job.

PEE 7

Why is it difficult to travel to Greece over sea for Enaiat with his group out of Turkey.

‘The sea started to get rough about midnight’

‘And little Hussein Ali, still collecting the water that was filling the dinghy, started whining. I know why we can’t get to Greece, he said. We can’t get to Greece because the sea goes uphill in that direction.

Our point of reference was a lighthouse on the Greek. coast. But after a while we stopped seeing it.’

There are a few things that makes it difficult to travel over sea to Greece.

→ Bad weather

→ You don’t know where you going

→ Because they are immigrants they should be careful for lifeguards ,etc.

Those few things make it difficult. Also because they builded their own float, which probably mean it is not really stable, makes it difficult to paddle with bad weather. It could happen that the waves are to strong, and too much water came into the float or the wind change the direction of the water, which means it is difficult to go in the right direction.

Also, because they are immigrants, they need to watch out for lifeguards.

PEE 8

In Athene it is important to act like a tourist for Enaiat.

‘We went into a bar and bought two huge paper cups of very weak coffee, like filter coffee, to be drunk through straws. I tasted it. It was disgusting. I’m not drinking that, I said. Don't drink if you want to, said Jamal. But hold it in your hand.’

Athene is a big and populair city with a lot of police. There are a lot of tourists and you can use that as a advantage. When you are a immigrant and you look clean, and act like they do, for example drinking coffee, which is the case in the book. It would be less obvious that you are a immigrant, and the change you got caught by the police or something is smaller, which is important in a city like Athene.

PEE 9

Why were the Olympic games the big stroke of luck for Enaiat and the other immigrants?

‘At the time was that a lot of running tracks and swimming pools and stadiums and sports complexes and other things were still unfinished, and the game were going to start soon. So, in order for the city not lose face, there was a big need for undeclared labourers, and even the police turned a blind eye, I think’

Enaiat had a no place to sleep, he slept in a park. This made the risk bigger that he will get caught. At the time that he was in Athene, the Olympic games were coming soon. This helped a lot, because they needed a lot of help for the preparation, also of police. That could be an advantage, because then the police turned a blind eye.

PEE 3

Nava was to dangerous.

‘Our teacher was as silent as usual, his arms hanging by his sides, and his eyes open, but turned inwards. I remember he had beautiful eyes that dispensed goodness to everyone around him.

Ba omidi didar, boys he said. Goodbye.

They shot him. In front of everyone.’

When the Taliban took over big parts of Afghanistan it became very dangerous. There was terror and war everywhere. The hole where Enaiat and his brother used to hide for the Taliban has got to small for Enaiat, and he did not fit in it anymore. That is also the reason why Eniath his mother left him, to find a better new life in a country without war. Also there was not a big chance for Enaiat to get good education, that was difficult because of the Taliban. They took all his good chances in Nava, and that is why his mother left him. To start a new life somewhere else.

PEE 6

Why is travelling to Turkey dangerous?

'A bengali boy got into difficulty. I don't know what it was, maybe a breathing problem, or maybe his heart, but he fell and slid down over the snow for several metres. We started yelling, wait someone is dying here, we have to stop and help him.'

The journey to Turkey out of Iran includes many risks.

For example: The cold. Because you are travelling through the mountains, cold is a big issue. As immigrants you won’t have much money to buy warm clothes, or something. There is a chance you will die because of the cold. Just like the group Enaiat met in the story.

Also a big problem is the Police. When you are on your way, and security or police finds you, then your trip will end.

Also there is not enough food and water when you are travelling in a big group, what is most of the time the case. This makes it difficult to hold your energy, and don’t get tired, which means cold will be a threat again. Because if you are to tired, and you start slowing down, and resting a lot, the cold will kill you.

PEE on the book In the sea there are crocodiles.

A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that is not literally true.

Point:

They say, it is a metaphor. Because there are no crocodiles in the sea. But I do not agree with that.

Evidence:

You can find this animal in the sea next to Australia most of the time.

Explanation:

There are saltwater crocodiles. And they are the longest animals on earth. A metaphor means it is not literally, and this is literally. So that means it is not a metaphor.

But some people will have a different opinion about it because you need to think deeply to get the same thought as I have. But I think I am right.

PEE 2

In the book ‘ in the sea there are crocodiles’ there is not just a story about a boy, who was left by his mother. There is also a message in the book. And I think we can compare the message to the title.

‘The Taliban came into the classroom, carrying a rifle, and said in a loud voice that the school had to be closed immediately.

I think we can compare this to the title. Because the title is a metaphor, it has a message. Just like the book I think. I think they mean with in the sea there are crocodiles:

In the sea there are no crocodiles. They don’t belong there. I think it works the same with for example the Taliban. They don’t belong in our world. And so there are many other problems that we can compare to this message.
