Having the customer sign in to the site just to see if that is where they wanted to look will result in them backing out of the site and looking some where else. Imagine having to sign into google every time you loaded it up before you could search for the nearest place to get pizza. If a five year old and a 105 year old can use the site to find the information they want, then the site can grow to be used by more people.
