Pay close attention to the breakout room you are assigned.
Once in your group revisit the section of the text you’ve been assigned and discuss the question your group has been given.
In Padlet (discussion tool) each group will create a summary of their text section/question.
Be prepared to share out

Women live longer, but they have more diseases and disabilities. The above paradox was explained in the text by considering sex differences in potentially fatal conditions such as cardiovascular disease(CVD).

It isn’t just that men have higher rates of CVD; in the United States, 88 of every 100,000 men between the ages of 45 and 54 die of heart disease annually, compared with only 49 of every 100,000 women (Boyd and Bee,2015 pg 408). Men are more likely to die from the disease once it has been acquired.

According to Van Doornen, Snieder, & Boomsma, (1998), One reason may be that the heart muscles of women who have CVD seem to be better able to adapt to stresses such as physical exertion. Also, once women have a heart attack, they recover to a higher level of physical functioning than men do.

Researches have found out that with the brain in middle age people it seems to be calmer and better able to sort through social situations. They have also found out that speed and memory start to decline by middle age, and thought process takes more parts of the brain in adulthood rather than young adults. Also when it comes to creating, and processing mental images, the middle age brain is just as efficient as the young brain.

A significant change that begins in middle adulthood is the loss of calcium from the bones, which can result in reduced bone mass and more brittle bones. This is osteoporosis.

Women carry a higher risk than men in developing osteoporosis because it is directly linked to estrogen and progesterone levels. Others who are at a higher risk include individuals who are underweight, women who experience early menopause, those with family history of osteoporosis, those who have a diet low in calcium, and those with a sedentary lifestyle or practice little physical activity.

This happens as a wear and tear of everyday use, common eye sight problems include loss of vision in close up objects or distant objects.

In our section, we learned about socioeconomic and race and how they impact health complications. In our section, there are facts about cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer, and the likelihood of each race contracting these diseases. For cardiovascular disease, "75% of Mexican American, 70% of Native American, and 80% of African American women are overweight, compared to 60% of White women" (Boyd and Bee, 2015, 409). Also, we think it's funny that high-class men think it's "unmanly" to visit the doctor's office seeking help for their health. Continuing on with the topic of doctor visits, minorities are less likely to visit the doctor's office to seek help. Whether this may be from availability, good health care, or unfortunate past experiences where they do not feel comfortable seeking help.
