The photo also ties the product to an idealized lifestyle that is summery and romantic which makes the dress more appealing.

User-Generated Content: UGC is a form of authentic content that is created and shared by customers rather than the brand producing content themselves. Estimating the production cost of $10 and knowing the retail price of $59, this dress has around a 83% markup. This dress falls on the high end of a markup for this type of retailer. When estimating the cost I looked at the details of the dress, with the dress being mini, and a stretch material, less fabric will be used. With a brand like Urban Outfitters they are likely importing goods in bulk which would also be less costly. Therefore, I think this dress is only costing $10 to make as it doesn't have much detail. Allowing them to mark it up and make a large profit.

With the estimation of the cost of the dress being $15 and the $69 retail price, this dress has an almost 80% markup, which is definitely a high amount for a retailer of this kind. A brand uch as Urban Outfitters is most likely importing their products from overseas which keeps costs down for them. The dress itself isn't super complicated and doesn't have much detail to it outside of the front halter. This is definitely a large markup that has succeeded for them.

The team at Urban Outfitters likely thinks that having this type of sale will boost their dress sales and help bring them profit.

KPI 1- Return Rate

Return Rate is (Total Returns/ Total Sales) *100

Decreasing the return rate for Urban Outfitters would be beneficial. A lot of Urban's customers are shoppers who enjoy online shopping. Online shopping will increase this rate because the customer isn't touching or trying on the product, which will lead to more returns. It is important to understand why product is being returned to help improve the items. A high return rate could display that product is made or marketed poorly. Decreasing the return rate will keep customers coming back and increase sales.

KPI 2- Conversion Rate

Conversion Rate: 1.5-2% (August 2025)

Conversion Rate is (Number of Sales/ Number of Visits) *100.

Urban Outfitters is a store that has a lot of traffic in store and online so, being able to convert many of these customers to purchase something is crucial. 2% conversion is good, but would be a great benefit for the brand if it could be improved.

KPI 3- Average Order Value

Average Order Value: $150-$175 (August 2025)

Average Order value is Total Revenue/ Number of orders.

Calculating how much a customer spends per each order on average. Urban Outfitters has clothing between $50-$200, Accessories $20-$150, and Home products $30-$300. With knowing their price range Urban has great results with the average price of each order. A customer is likely buying a few items or one higher priced item which is great for their target customer. Also Urban is usually offering sales, or coupons, which could lower the price of each item. Having an AOV still this high is a great asset.
