Overall, it is clear that when oil and natural gas remained as the major energy sources which the Americans depended in both years, an increased dependency is seen in case of both coal and nuclear energy.

According to the pie charts, oil was the major energy source in 1980s in the USA and it provided more than 40% of their total energy demand. Natural gases was the second most significant energy source as it provided more than one fourth of the total energy needs. Coal provided more than 20% of the energy demands for the USA in this decade while two other minor sources for energy were nuclear power and hydroelectric power and each of which provided 5% of the total energy requirement.

In the next decade, the use of nuclear power as a source of energy in the USA doubled while the use of oil decreased. Use of nuclear power for energy in the USA doubled while the use of oil decreased. Use of coal for energy increased slightly while natural gas provided almost same energy as it did in the previous decade. Hydroelectric power provided the same percentage of energy in this decade which was the only energy source which remained unchanged.

The use of nuclear power as a source of energy increases and it produced 10% energy in the 1990 which was double than the percentage of energy production from this source in the 1980 ,whereas the production of energy from oil decreased from 42% to 33%. In 1990, the proportion of coal was 22% before increasing to 27% and the use of natural gas was 26% before decreasing to 25%.

In 1980, oil was the main energy source in the USA which was 42%, followed by 26% of natural gas. Then coal supplied more than 20 percent of power demand in the USA while hydroelectric power and Nuclear power both supplied 5% of the total energy.
After ten years, Nuclear power produced one-tenth of full power demand and that was almost double that it was in the previous decade. The hydroelectric power as an energy source remained unchanged as it provided 5% of total energy demand in this decade also. The two other main sources of energy in the USA remained almost unchanged in this decade and those two sources were Coal and Natural Gas. Finally, the use of oil as an energy source reduced to 33%, which is almost 10% less than the previous decade but remained the largest source albeit the reduction in this 90s decade.
