         <description><![CDATA[<div>please read this all, then watch the you tube clips,  read again and start...  <br>I will check seesaw for questions you may have in the evening and have answers for you the next morning.<br> https://youtu.be/KG55hUzQtrg click on the link above<br>or view the video below, scroll down.<br> <strong>Bone Experiment.<br>the work sheet is in seesaw</strong></div><div> The rubber bone experiment is a classic scientific investigation that teaches how important calcium is to having a strong and healthy skeletal system, as well as the acidic properties of vinegar.<br><br></div><div><strong>Science behind the experiment.<br></strong><br></div><div>Calcium and phosphate minerals combine to keep bones strong and rigid. </div><div><br></div><div>Chemical Reaction With Bone and Acid </div><div><br>The acid component of vinegar reacts with calcium compounds in bones, making the calcium soluble so that the water component of vinegar can then dissolve the calcium from the bones, leaving the bone less rigid and able to bend. <br><br></div><div>More in-depth………<br><br></div><div>The acetic acid in vinegar and calcium carbonate in chicken bones react together to produce calcium acetate -- a calcium salt that is soluble in water -- and carbonic acid.<br><br></div><div> When calcium acetate is formed, it diffuses out of the bones and into the water component of the vinegar. </div><div>What you should observe…<br><br></div><div>Carbonic acid is not stable at room temperature, and it immediately breaks down into water and carbon dioxide gas, which is released as small bubbles that can be seen if the bones are watched closely over time….</div><div><br></div><div>Your Experiment…<br><br></div><div><strong>Materials needed:<br></strong><br></div><div> 3 labelled jars<br><br></div><div>1.    Water (control)</div><div>2.    One with vinegar</div><div>3.    One with coke… extension experiment…on day seven, need all bones from jar one and two, kept in their solution   see instructions at the end.</div><div> <br><br></div><div>Chicken thigh bones…. (3) or two if not doing extension coke experiment….….<br> Use either raw or cooked chicken  thigh bones but not both…..<br><br> ( without flesh on them….
