Weaker food and drug regulations, along with the expansion of the fast food industry are all reasons for this fast food epidemic amongst a mobile population. In a survey conducted by Cint Insight Exchange in India, 43.6% out of approximately 116,000 participants stated that they visit McDonalds quite frequently. 47.8% said they go to Domino's.
Taco Bell, Krispy Kreme, Burger King and McDonald's have all announced plans to expand in India or have opened new outlets around the country in the future.
The average middle-class Indian consumer's spending power is steadily increasing, with more people, particularly women, entering the workforce. This means that more people are able to eat in fast food restaurants.
Another big factor which contributes to India's fast food consumption is increased exposure to international cuisine through the media and travel, making the country a desirable destination for international food chains looking to expand globally.
