I know that cyberbullying means any form of bullying (consistent teasing, nagging, verbal or physical abuse) through the internet/ online. Cyber bullying can be done through different parts of the internet such as text, email, or social media. One form of social media that I know is commonly used for cyber bullying is snapchat because messages are deleted/ disappear after being viewed. This is commonly used so that the abuser will not get caught. These messages can be retrieved though and because it is on the internet it does not disappear forever. Colleges, sports teams, and jobs look for reasons not to have you and cyber bullying is a big turn down for them. Also I know that cyberbullying and suicide attempts have become more aware through big and trending cases such as the Aubrey Watt case and many others.

I have seen many stories regarding deaths because of cyberbullying on social media. This interests me because I believe something should be done to enforce against cyberbullying and that we (as a nation and world) could be putting in greater effort to prevent cases like the ones I see on social media from occurring. Also From grade 9 and below we learn a small overview of cyberbullying and that we should not do it but do not grasp a zoomed out version of how common and serious the matter is and can get.

This source is an image of a poll that went out to teenagers and their parents. These people were asked 4 questions in relation to the teenagers' use of social media in order to compare how much parents know about their tennagers presence on social media. The results showed that in all the questions the teenagers' responses and parents' responses were not uniformed. This source is reliable because it was found on a school database and it is objective because it only states facts based on research done. The goal of this source was to inform others of how much parents really knew about their teens behavior on social media. This is a useful source because it gives background knowledge and evidence to know that parents are not aware of everything that their children do on social media. If they were cyberbullying or being cyber bullied, it can apply although it was not specifically tested in the poll. This would convince more parents to be aware of their teenagers' social media and help contribute to reducing the amount of cyberbullying cases.

"'Platforms Must Prevent Misuse'." New Straits Times, 15 July 2024. ProQuest; SIRS Issues Researcher, https://explore.proquest.com/sirsissuesresearcher/document/3086992953?accountid=76006.

In a cabinet meeting, representatives discussed the issue of cyberbullying and what actions should be taken to prevent it. This led them to believe social media platforms should take ownership of any misuse of their app so that they can limit and address any cyberbullying. This source is reliable because it was found on a school database but it is also biased because the article is heavily supporting the method of having the platform assume responsibility in comparison to other possible solutions. The goal of this source is to encourage action in response to misuse of social media in order to show that cyberbullying is a serious matter that needs serious attention and consequences. This source served as a suggestion for a possible solution to push to be enacted. This source was also helpful to shed awareness that anything that has relation to cyberbullying is a good step to look for a solution because if they contribute they can also help prevent it. This helps convince more social media platforms to change their policies so that they can stop the misuse of their apps because of possible future responsibility and actions of accountability needing to take place.

Victims of cyberbullying can have negative effects such as depression, self-harm, or suicide. All states have a type of law passed against cyberbullying but other strategies to prevent cases could be lessons on proper use of technology and emotions or create a reporting system. This information is reliable because it was found on a school database and it is objective because it showcases both opinions on which method to decrease cyberbullying would be the most effective. The goal of this source is to inform people about the rising cases in cyberbullying and their impacts. Also wants to inform people of potential solutions that could be used to help lower the cases. This source fits into my research by providing reasons why people should care about cyberbullying as well as more solutions to support and put into action. This helps more people care for my topic because it lists the negative effects of cyberbullying on the victims which include serious effects to make the readers understand this is an urgent matter.

If people continue to remain indifferent about cyberbullying then the victims of it will fall to the perils such as mental issues, self-harm and possible suicide. These perils would most likely occur because victims of cyberbullying often feel alone, which could lead to depression or wanting to end the pain that they are going through by being targeted online. There were multiple solutions present in my sources, but the one that stood out to me the most was petitioning to have a law created to put responsibility on the social media platform to which the misuse (cyberbullying) took place. This would be beneficial towards the cause because social media platforms are a primary source of cyberbullying, so the platforms would look to improve their apps so that it is hard for misuse to occur. If misuse does occur they would fix it right away, preventing it from happening again.
