Listening

In my classes, I prefer listening activities from coursebook and other sources. I especially prefer videos on youtube, voscreen and other useful websites. My choice changes in accordance with my students interest and level, target objective and the time separated for the topic. I generally use songs in my classes. At the very beginning of the lessons, as a warm up activity, in order to encourage my students to learn English and draw their interest to the lesson, I make them listen to a song and sing it in the following 2 or 3 weeks. In the end I make a quiz which includes both filling in the blanks excercise and singing as a whole class. Most of the time we choose the song with my students, they give suggestions and I check the vocabulary and decide on an appropriate one for the educational environment. I sometimes use reader parts of addditional sources. To sum up, I combine all the thing since every topic has a different nature and I try to give it in a more understandable and a short way to make it to the point.

From todays session I have learned many thing that I can use in my classroom to apply more active listening activities. I believe that I can arrange the activities but before I haven’t thought about modifiying the instructions to enthusiast them to do the activities. For example; they can get bored doing true false activities because it is always the same thing. However , if we change it as ‘ find the lies in the sentences’, they may wonder what lies. It may draw their attention. Also we need differemtion in listening and we got some tip from our colleagues and trainer about, I think they are useful, I will use them in my classes. By this way, fast learner and slow learner students can engage activities at thier own paces, it means there will be fewer bored students and fewer students who don’t understand. When it comes the clearence of instructions, ICQ’s will solve the problem of finding out whether they got the instruction or not, and be useful for involving the students to the activities. As a result I have learnt many useful things that will improve my taeching skills and I have realised that I have already known and applied some of them in my classes, and this made me very happy and more confident in my field. Thanks for your invaluable effort :)

Speaking

The most common problem is hesitation of students to participate in speaking activities.

Today I liked the idea of using paper slide tecnique in my classes because there is no need for special equipment for it except papers and a camera. By the help of this activity students can get summarizing and giving the necessary knowledge skills. Flipgrid was also useful for having a portfolio of students speaking process and evaluating them in one tool. The videos we watched about the speaking was really informative, I will take them into consideration and utilise them in my lessons. Thank you:)

Reading

Reading race activity was interesting for me because it gives each students different task but they are supposed to work collaboratively. Beside it, it was about reading for detailed information and good warm up activity for reading lessons. KWL Chart was new for me and I loved the idea of students will search for what they want to know. It is more meaningful. And also it gives a chance to do pre, while, and post activities all in one activity. It seems really economical and timesaving.

I would like to try all the activities with my students, but especially ‘line up discussion’ drew my attention. I provides an interactive learning atmosphere. KWL chart is also will be included in my lessons. I want to share what was discussed about feedback in my PDC meeting since it may not be done correctly by most of the teachers. As an example; I sit with my students while they are doing their activity. ICQ questions also crucial for comprehension of instruction. We have to make sure that they understand what they are going to do.

In the aspect of monitoring and feedback, I have learned something new and had an opportunity to look over my monitoring and giving feedback. I sit with my students while they are doing their activity. I am going to adapt my monitoring and behave as I am not here but check them silently by walking in the class. When it comes to feedback, I use ideal feedback giving style in my classes. Thanks:)

Using Padlet for writing sessions is great idea because you can check them whenever you want. Bringing the students who have the common things and making them search for their interests provides more practical purpose for writing. This arouse students in the topic and motivate them to participate in lesson more actively.

I am of the opinion that my colleagues would be interested in giving feedback after writing in PDC meetings.

I have no questions now, I will think about it and write it later.

Grammar and Vocabulary

1. I think CCQs are the most appropriate for teachers in my district. The reason behind this is that they may need some help of making sure of whether their students comprehend the concept or not although they have already known how to elicit vocabulary to them. What is needed to build learning on more solid foundations is exactly CCQs.

2. We have learnt that the grammar teaching stages are different from the other for skills that has pre, while and post activities. It has PPT ( Present, Practice, Produce) and GD (Guided Discovery). The grammar lessons should be organized according to these stages. This was new to me because we were not taught how to teach grammar and the thing that was said about it was that you should give it in other four skills implicitly. It was new to me. Perhaps my colleagues would in the same situation with me. They would give priority to the teaching grammar stages.

3. I liked Dolmuş game a lot. It was fun and great way to have an interactive brainstorming activity in context. It gives an opportunity for peer learning also. Elicit, Check, Drill, Write will be beneficial for me to organize my lessons. CCQs was also meaningful for vocabulary too. However, my favourite one is Dolmuş game. :)

1. I think the most challenging problem of my concept is crowded classes issue. Because of the immigration buildings are not enough to create normal size classes. They are generally made up of 34 students.
2. I suppose I could get help from the other PDC facilitators in the city because they are my firends. This will be benefical for colloborating and sharing.
3. I will be in touch with my classmates during the preparations of PDCs. Moreover, we may work on same project such as eTwinnig.
4. It was cristal clear, thanks for your effort and patience and warm class atmoaphere🤗

Initially, I want share that I have really enjoyed today’s Micro PDCs. It was great to see my colleagues work colloboratively in a warm atmosphere. While preparing for Micro PDC, we shared responsibilities and worked together incooperation. It was our first experince of PDC and I think ıt was useful to implement it before the real PDCs in our district. As far as I see, as a class, we got the main idea of PDCs and how to implement it in ours. 🤗
