I posted that we would play Kahoot as part of the lesson. We played in Google Meets. Kids came out of the wood works! They shared their positive comments after the game.

Since students were comfortable with using Pear Deck in our regular class. Now, Pear Deck Premium is FREE for teachers (90 days), and this allows teachers to see students' names and email addresses. The social emotional check ins are the best. Students can show creativity and draw pictures. When academic questions are posed, students are typing away.

Pamela Martin

I have been using everything from me live showing materials, having a powerpoint with one of my own kids featured, using fun games, Google Earth, kahoot, just making it as engaging as I can using many different resources. I made a smartboard activity for the Great Depression incorporating the game Monopoly that the kids enjoyed.
-James G

My English class students had a storyboard project. There are two parts to this project. First part is to make a draft of their story. Students have to fill out a Google Docs with all their story elements, including their theme and POV. The 2nd part is to make their story alive at storyboardthat.com. I enjoy reading their stories and students had fun visualizing their imagination.

We played team pictionary, and they had to guess the word out loud if they had a microphone (I accepted chat answers too). We did sort of a round robin Q & A, where a student was called on by name by another student and had to answer the question, then call on someone else etc. Students without microphones is a challenge. I also put a padlet link in my Pear Deck as part of the lesson, with questions like: What are you doing in Quarantine? What are you doing for learning German? What do you want to do in class? etc. As they were writing, I would comment on the microphone, especially on their activities, and I would ask a follow up question. They hopped right on the microphone and answered back. (Of course, 6th period is my most talkative bunch).

Students want to play, so we have done Quizlet Live, Kahoot, Quizziz, PIctionary and Pear Deck practice. I make them do an Entrance Ticket as a check in, then we do some work on Pear Deck, then we finish with a game of some kind. I know many teachers are doing similar things with great success! The kids said they want to play Pictionary again, and they always beg for Kahoot.

Using breakout groups to have students work on my warm-up together (thanks Hannah and Shane!), then we come back together to review it. If students have a chance to feel comfortable about their answer/justification in their breakout groups, then they might feel more comfortable sharing an answer with the whole class.
