The Easter tradition in Poland is Palm Sunday.
Palm Sunday also fits into Easter traditions. Preparation for the rebirth of Christ really begins sooner, as Ash Wednesday, but the Palm Sunday is a more clear signal of the upcoming renewal. This holiday has been celebrated in Poland since the Middle Ages, and it was established to commemorate Christ's arrival in Jerusalem. Once in Poland it is called "Willow" because willow branches replaced palm trees. He begins the period of spiritual preparation for the holidays, which is a calm, focused and experiencing the passion of Christ. On this day, the faithful bring a palm to the church, which is a symbol of reviving life.

Easter is the most important Catholic holiday in Poland, so its celebration is primarily religious - it starts on Palm Sunday, the week before Easter. On this day palms prepared from twigs and flowers are blessed. The week after Palm Sunday is called Holy Week, and its culmination is Holy Thursday, Good Friday (the most serious and saddest day of the year - mourning day, commemorating the crucifixion of Christ) and Holy Saturday - waiting day. Throughout the week, Catholics participate in special masses and retreats, and on Holy Saturday they go to churches with decorated baskets, in which they carry symbolic foods (including eggs, bread, salt, sausage, horseradish and lamb made of sugar or dough), that these would be sacrificed. Food from the basket, called Święconka, is eaten on Easter Sunday during breakfast - the most solemn meal in the entire holiday season. The festive table is decorated with Easter eggs, catkins, cress and sugar lamb (or lamb with yeast dough), sometimes with chicks and bunnies. For breakfast - in addition to dedicated foods from the basket - you can eat sour rye soup or white borscht, eggs, sausages and cakes, the most popular of which are baby and mazurkas. During breakfast, family members share a sacred egg and wish each other health and prosperity.

One of the most important holidays is Easter, it means the resurrection of Jesus. The most important days preceding it are:- Wet Monday-Great Thursday-Good Friday- Holy Saturday- Wednesday gray matter- Blessing of food.In some regions of Poland there is a tradition of the bunny who distributes gifts. The second day of Easter is known in the folk tradition as Lana Monday or Śmigusa-dyngus. This is the only day of the year when we can splash water with someone's family or friends with a clear conscience. Although this tradition is slowly disappearing, it is worth remembering that it has existed in folk culture for centuries. The habit of pouring water has become a part of history almost 600 years ago. Some sources say that he appeared in Poland along with German settlers. It is associated with the ancient rituals of symbolic purification and rainfall, which testifies to the arrival of spring. The genesis of Śmigus-dyngus is directly related to its name and was originally associated with two customs, practiced mainly by rural youth. Śmigus meant whipping maidens on branches with fresh branches to give them health, fertility and beauty. Dyngus - pouring water, from which the young lady could buy herself out by giving a watering with a hand-decorated Easter egg or a delicacy from the holiday table. The girl who received the most swims or gusts enjoyed the greatest success.Although it derives from secular tradition, the custom of watering has been adapted by the Catholic Church as a tradition on the second day of Easter. In bark beetles from the second half of the nineteenth century there is information about retinue of helicopters who walked around the houses with a wooden figurine of a lamb, symbolizing the Lord Jesus. The tradition of Cast Monday is cultivated in modern times. Especially in the nineties, teams of young people supplied with buckets of water and attacking random pedestrians were a real plague. Today, Śmigus-dyngus gives joy mainly to children, equipped with complex, imitating weapon water-shooting toys, which are in no way related to bottles with holes in the cap, or buckets, which were poured by older generations.

Everyone loves Easter! It's a lovely time that you can spend with family. But before Easter we have to wait 40 days keeping a fast, especially on Fridays, when we can't eat meat. This waiting time before Easter is called Lent. A Lent starts on Ash Wednesday, when a priest sprinkles our heads with ash saying "You arose from dust, you will change into dust". Lent ends with The Holy Week: Maundy Thursday, Maundy Friday, Maundy Saturday (when we go to the church with the Easter basket) and finally Easter.

I wish you all a Happy Easter

- Jacob
