I would like to determine whether or not student behavior is affected by the type of instruction taking place in the classroom. For example, do students disrupt class less frequently during whole-class instruction, collaborative work, partner work, or individual work. Certainly I would like to narrow my focus or give it a little tweak, so if anyone has interesting ideas I'd love to hear them! I want to use my findings to determine which types of instruction work best in my classroom and utilize those most frequently.

"The goal of teachers to be professional problem solvers committed to improving both their own practice and student outcomes provides a powerful reason to practice action research" (Mills, 2014).

This quote is relevant to me because while I do of course want to improve my own professional practice, what is most important to me is improving learning for all students; both those creating disruptions and those affected by disruption. I want my classroom to become a more effective environment for all students to learn.

Reference:

Mills, G. E. (2014). Action research: A guide for the teacher researcher (5th ed).

The primary bias I am concerned with regarding this project is the amount of background I have with my students and their behavior. It is imperative that I don't allow past experiences with students to interfere with the integrity of my research on how instructional strategies affect their behavior.
