Page 4-5 “My mom and dad first met while they were standing in line to pay speeding tickets at the Dade County Courthouse, and they got married six weeks later. I know this is a fact because mom put the speeding tickets in a scrapbook, along with their wedding pictures and stuff like that. The ticket my mother got was for driving 44 miles an hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone. My father’s was much worse—he was doing 93 on a turnpike. In the album Dad’s ticket looks sort of lumpy and wrinkled because he’d crumpled it into a ball when the state trooper handed it to him. My mother said she used a laundry iron to flatten it out before posting it next to hers in the scrapbook.
About a year after they got married, my parents moved to the Keys. I’m sure this was Dad’s idea, because he’d been coming here ever since he was a kid and he hated the big city.”

I think that this is an important part of the story because it is showing and talking about how Noah and his parents became a family. It states how they met, when they got married, and where the moved to.

page 12 “Lucky for us, it was summertime and school was out. That meant that Abbey and I didn’t have to face all the other kids at once. It’s a pretty small town and news gets around fast, so by now it was no secret that our father was in the slammer for sinking Dusty Muleman’s casino boat.”

I think the is important because the passage tells the reason why Noah’s dad is in jail and how hard it would be going to school while there dad is in jail. They live in a small town and according to the story it was no secret anymore.

Page 22-23 “ Go clean your room,” she said. “Please.” Abbey was waiting at the top of the stairs. She put a finger to her lips and led me down the hall to my parents’ bedroom. She cracked open the door and pointed. There, lying in the bed, was my mother’s suitcase. Not her vacation suitcase, either, but the big plaid one, “Uh-oh,” I said in a whisper. Abbey nodded gravely. “She’s serious this time, Noah, We’ve got to do something.”

This is a very important part of the story because in the past there mother has talked about moving and taking the kids with her and out of the keys. Their mom was threatening their dad by leaving him and this time it may be true.

The type of literature is called onomatopoeia. There’s also details when your use onomatopoeia.

“I didn’t know what to say but I had to be careful.”

This sentence is important to this book because it could show that the character could be in danger or in a consequence if they said something they shouldn’t of. I also think this helps the story make more sense because everything is kind of funny and joking in Flush so it kind of make it sound a little bit more serious.

“Shortly before the news was supposed to come on,a hideous scream arose from my sisters room.”

This is more of a scary quote from the book. Even though I know the sister didn’t get murderd it kind of sounds like it. It makes me want to keep reading because it’s the start of a paragraph and I know something might happen if I keep reading.I also think they made a good word choice because they said arose instead something more simple like came out of my sisters room or something boring like that.

She leaned over and kissed the top of my head, the way Mom used to do when I was small.

This is an important sentence because, it shows how the smallest things ever can bring back good memories. Like when his mother would kiss him on his head. I think this makes good sense. Plus it makes that person look good. This could also be important because it means that person could be closer with so and so.

“My momma used to say, ‘Keep your friends close, girl, but keep your enemies closer, ‘ “ said Shelly.

This sentence means something.
I say this because it shows That she still remembers the things her mother would say. It also shows that she may be sending a message to Noah.Like sending him a signal. It could also mean that she is saying that Noah could possibly be her enemy.

“Apparently the sheriff is delighted that he escaped and has no intention of pursuing him-as long as he goes back and gets his paper work straightened out.”

This shows how right Noah and Abby’s mom was. I say this because Noah’s mom preached that if their dad had just went back they have legally released him. Although sadly that may take some convincing. Noah’s father is very stubborn . This is definitely an important sentence because like I said earlier it proves Noah’s wise mom right.

“Your tying to get rid of me, how come?” , “Because I need to speak too talk to Noah privately”.

I think this conversation is really important with where I’m at in the book. I She’s obviously hiding something and it’s just a matter of time before they figure out exactly what’s she’s hiding. They soon talk about the deaths after which makes it even more suspicious.

I also think that splitting up and on this occasion is a really stupid thing to do in the situation because it makes it even more risky.

They all pause to turn there heads and exchange glances and know there thinking the same thing, then this sentence comes in making all of my thoughts on what could be happening change, to “Wait what if they do have Abby!!?” So this sentence was pretty eventful in my reading.
