6.1 JP Morgan Padlet by Stephen Pierpoint

J.P. Morgan was one of the most powerful bankers of his era (1837-1913). He financed railroads and helped organize US steel, General Electric and other major corporations. Born in Connecticut and the son of an already rich banking businessman. Later in life JP Morgan took advantage of the booming business of the Railroad industry. He would reorganize and consolidate the failing railroad businesses and turn them into a success. In turn he would own a portion of the company which would end up being 1/6th of the total railroad business in the United States. He used his influence to help stabilize American financial markets during several economic crisis, including the Panic of 1907. Many people thought he had to much power and was using it for his own personal wealth. I do not consider JP Morgan to be a Robber Baron because he made smart business decisions and took advantage of good opportunities that he was given. Anybody in his situation with the same chance would do exactly what he did.
