A strong gravitational force is exerted on the earth by the moon. This draws one side of the earth closest to the moon away from the center. The side facing away from the moon is experiencing a weak force because the center of the Earth is being pulled toward the moon. This creates bulges on both sides of the earth making is football shaped.

Neap tide are really weak tides. They occur when the gravitational forces of the Moon and the Sun are perpendicular to one another (with respect to the Earth).Neap occur during quarter moons. The Spring Tide is are a unusually high tide and they occur during the full moon and new moon.

1) How many tides are there? I learned there are four tides. Two high tides and two low tides.
2) Another question is where do the different tides occur? I learned the high tide is closer to the moon while the low tide is farthest away from the moon.
3) My final question was how does a tide look? I learned it appears to make a football shape.
